I’m just humbly suggesting that, should the publishing industry want to tackle the crisis in reading for pleasure rates, and we have research suggesting that there’s no crisis in reading for pleasure rates amongst children who read comics, that there’s maybe a relatively simple solution right here.

What it makes a difference to is everyone who is already working legally having another bit of hassle and expense and your data being stored by yet another private company who is as susceptible to hacking as every other big company hacked recently.

People who "work illegally" are paid - in cash - by people who decided not to check their documents because they can pay them less than minimum wage and have no paperwork or NI contributions to worry about. Digital ID makes zero difference to that.

Let's have an honest conversation about immigration. Immigration has been a huge net positive for this country. The NHS is one of the largest employers in the world. And it is on its knees due to a combination of underfunding, political duplicity and BREXIT. Anyone else?

Starmer, you're not 'battling' Reform by copying their homework.

The success of the far right is not only measured in votes and seats but in its impact on rhetoric, policy and ideology. The fact that a (nominally) social democratic head of government with a huge majority choses to say and do this is maybe the biggest success of the far right in Europe yet.

Starmer will NEVER appeal to Reform voters, and honestly will only make things worse. Starmer will try to out-Farage Farage at every turn, only for Farage to then go on and adopt a more extreme position, which Starmer will kowtow to, while saying that he opposes the language Farage uses.
