There's a really unpleasant tenor of the debate that there are normal/good people here & those in poverty over there, rather than that we're all people who might hit on hard times if something bad happens to us and its not right to punish children for the mistakes or misfortunes of their parents.

...I become more and more convinced that there is just too much complexity involved in UK childcare policy and far too much concern about eligibility and 'fairness'. That you can lose your job, lose your free childcare and then, boom, there is no real path back to fulltime work for you is crazy.
