The Democratic Party's approval rating is in the toilet, and the main reason is voters see Dem leaders and prominent members acting like things are basically okay instead of fighting like there's an emergency. Slot "my friend Lindsey Graham, so funny, how great to work with him" comments into that.

i don't think it's good to be friendly with fascists. i think it speaks poorly of the character of every dem senator trotting out this trite bullshit. graham defended the ICE agent who murdered your fellow citizen on camera. graham was subhuman garbage, and the world is better off with him dead.

Despite a paper trail proving otherwise, Unbound’s administrators claimed they still owned the rights to Effin’ Birds and threatened to sue Penguin Random House if PRH paid me any royalties for my ongoing book sales. Wasn’t resolved until two months ago. They tried to bankrupt me out of spite.

I would probably have stayed up to watch the end of the match last night, and maybe paid more attention to the World Cup in general, had I known beforehand that England's head coach was Werner Herzog.

Not the use of the word "detained" here to make it appear as though the settlers have some legal capacity to be doing this. If i ran up on a US Rep with a rifle and prevented them from leaving it would be, correctly, described as kidnapping; and doing so with political ends would be terrorism.

I'm a serious journalist off to do some fully representative vox pops on whether feminism has gone too far. Going to start at a Magic: The Gathering tournament, hit up a UFC cage fight, then its off to the replies to an Elon Musk tweet about how the girl in Stellar Blade "totally looks over age".

I see Ann Widdecombe has died. When she was Home Secretary I showed her round Drake Hall womens’s prison. There was a pregnant woman on a bed in the early stages of Labour and she asked the prison officers why she wasn’t handcuffed to the bed. That’s the kind of woman she was.

Kind of odd that US commenters are all like "You've got a perennial candidate who puts a bin on his head, hahaha" and not focusing on "You resign as an MP by applying to become the steward and bailiff of the Manor of Northstead? Are...are you Ok? Were you dropped on your head as a baby country?"

Our media will of course learn no lessons from this, but the initial ICE narrative about the two murders it committed here in Minneapolis was 100% false, slanderously depicting the victims as aggressors attempting to kill federal agents. Literally zero reason to believe ICE here. Zilch. None.

If roughing up a girlfriend and locking her in a room was a virile, authentic a rejection of “smoothgroined” “HR lady” politics, but a rape is too far, then what’s at stake is not a principled rejection of violence against women but a cynical assessment of how much violence a man can get away with.

Nothing that's come out so far has really dented Farage. If he's going, it's either because he's had it easy for so long that he's found himself wholly unprepared for the level of scrutiny any other political leader would have had years ago, or there's something really, really big about to break.

To put it in terms we can all understand, it's like if Belgium deployed a series of googlies and chinamen that confounded the US top order who's attempts at hooks and late cuts to cover point became a parade of agricultural shots edging sitters to the slips and silly mid-off.

6 years of research: "The only trait that consistently predicted objections to remote work was narcissism—the tendency to be self-centered & entitled. The higher the opinions of themselves leaders expressed, the more they coveted power and status—& the more they favored return-to-office mandates."

Fascinating to see how many Americans who've tut-tutted over Trumpist corruption are now apparently in favour of it now it's working towards something they want (specifically, America winning the kick-the-ball game which exists as an ancillary feature to a global bribery factory)

Everyone’s enjoying the excommunication drama but there are also lessons for pro-democracy political actors. Decades of accommodating and appeasing this sect did not work and only emboldened them. You have to go whole hog. When you have power, break the back of the reactionaries. Shut them out

it's not really important in the grand scheme of things, but finding out the 250th anniversary of the country was going to be a nation-wide party with infinite food and concerts in major venues and Trump canceled all of it so he could hire shady contractors and pocket the rest infuriates me so much.

It would appear that if you now look in the Urban Dictionary, 'former refugee' is shorthand for a very different word popular amongst the NF community in the 1970s. In much the same way 'Matt Goodwin' has replaced the word 'cunt'.

I think that the worst thing about the "refugee tax" is that the high accommodation costs are caused by the Home Office, and in particular their inability to make fast AND accurate decisions, leaving people rotting in those grim places. Refugees are effectively being fined for HO incompetence.
