Beyond the Wall of Stars (1992) is one of those weird multimedia experiences tailored-made for me. Ultralow-budget sci-fi interactive multiple-choice book with bonkers plot, water pistols, digitized actors and all that good stuff. It was supposed to be a trilogy but alas, that never happened.

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up. I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

The 70s. Termite Terrace is closed. Its residents either dead, retired, or moved on to other projects. But their creations, the Looney Tunes, lived on in some form or another to become inescapable cultural icons. This is the story of Bugs Bunny and pals and their legacy.

Said this from day one. Unless you actually know the person running them pretty well, don’t use them. Self-appointed mods almost always roll in incoherent personal or intracommunity beefs. You’ll have your actual friends and acquaintances suddenly disappear from your feed without notice.

What all of these arguments share in common is the defense of bad videogame writing as the only possible state of affairs. It's genuinely alienating.

c) "Videogames are uniquely disqualified from having good writing forever." An incomprehensible position strictly driven by resentment—mind you, not of the aesthetic kind, as many gamers would love to believe, but of the "we lost the war on people's attention" kind.

(One thing you'll notice about many videogame discussions is how comfortable people are with making shit up: "videogames are good at x", "videogames are bad at y", etc. Tends to happen in the absence of the possibility, real or perceived, of discussing actual, existing works.)

b) "We don't, but that's okay (or, arbitrarily narrowing the aesthetic territory of videogames is desirable)." An ahistorical defense of essentialism cynically disguised as a defense of idiosyncrasy. These people simply don't treat videogames as art, including the "gamey" ones.

The whole discussion around good videogame writing: a) "We actually have it in spades, as demonstrated by mass appeal at worst and vulgar narratology at best." If you genuinely believe this, there is no hope for you.
