ok we're getting somewhere now. i have the verbs partially set up and bound. theoretically, if you have an item which has its description written, it should be able to display it now...

right now the adventurer actually contains all the inventory items. but the idea of the object model i'm prototyping is that the inventory will not be a magic container, but an actual physical container (or more than one) which is attached to you. and this interface will seamlessly show all of them.

i got the new menu receiving input callbacks. now i'm going to set up the verbs, then hook them up to the inputs.

i hope i am able to save some money and RAM prices come down, i really am overdue for a new computer (mine is ~10 years old). not that i wouldn't be playing old games anyway. but it would be really nice to be able to play new releases with higher system requirements as well.

contextual doubling horizontally would work for a few things, eg a sword rendered horizontally. the map display could have glyphs placed with gaps of 1, with some glyphs contextually connected (eg walls could have walls between them).

u+1fb00 - u+1fbff symbols for legacy computing actually gets so much more intense than this. if you use the mosaic tiles or sextant blocks, it cracks open a whole other amazing can of worms.

wait what if the solution to boats turning is that boats /can't/ turn.

something related to the weird pit edge trick also potentially is a solution for how to draw boats. you can have people, ground, etc. inside boats and draw the edges from the water side. but there are cases where you need impossible combos which aren't in unicode.

i figured out a scheme to do continuous edges around pits using u+1fb00 - u+1fbff symbols for legacy computing + box drawing. there's only a /partial/ permutational set of edge lines. 🭼, 🭽, 🭾, 🭿 ▏,▕, ▔, ▁ however, if you catch any upper left edges for both a pit or ground, you can do continuous!

i recently realized i don't have any playable species with osteoderms, which seems like an oversight.
