if a dog eats a man there are no limits on its growth for one year. a dog that ate countless men could theoretically grow indefinitely.

I think at some point doing environment art for a game you have to kind of imagine how it would hit an anyaustin type player. Put those weird little corners in for sure.

I am mostly on here to keep up on and interact with other artists, and I genuinely have no idea what the social media landscape is like out there these days in general. Where are people most active?

Idea percolating: wanted to make a kind of oneiric wander game for ages but I always get hung up on what makes an interesting world to explore and how to justify it artistically. I think it's important not feel too player-serving but I also struggle just making a place without a guiding concept

It'd be funny if in a contemporary movies when they did flashbacks to 2005 and everything was either aggressively piss-filtered or blue/green like that's just how things looked

I kinda don't get the hype for Silksong. Like, I'm sure it will be great, but it's going to be more Hollow Knight, right? Like there's no expectation that it's going to break the mould is there? Is that part of the appeal? A safe bet?

modelling every brick instead of making textures for a wall in 1996- it has aged gracefully in my opinion đ

I think I might not have made my point clear here so to elaborate: I think it's funny that people are nostalgic for these places being more kitsch. I get it, but that baseline was already an ugly outgrowth of building a nation around cars.

This really works because "the shitty prefab commercial architecture used to have more postmodern kitsch" is such a funny example of shifting baseline phenomenon which probably does apply to a lot of things

You know, I'm really OK with the state of the humble, scrabbling kind of art I make, but how does one learn to have more creative uh, vigour?

Since I saw that Wuhu Island Explorer thing earlier, I got curious about it. I wonder what the process for modelling something like this is? The terrain is all a contiguous mesh and it looks so clean. The triangles are probably all cut by hand. Maybe starting from splines and filling?

Dream game to work on: small but densely detailed location, a several different rabbit holes for the player to explore, very light gameplay but textured with lots of immersive details, unique setting not centred on the player, gesture at a bigger world.

Question for the room, because it's on my mind, how long would you expect a pretty simple character like this, rigged and all, to take to create?

re: saving a png to a bird: now imagine instead of trying to encode an image in the shape of a waveform you used a sound-based image compression algorithm, I bet you could have one designed specifically around the vocal range of birds
