stunned that the home secretary's proposal to reform the UK immigration system involves... mandatory volunteer work in order to remain in the country? so if you're an immigrant you're just automatically part of a class of unpaid servile workers now?? what the fuck are we doing???

This was the first holiday to Spain where I feel like I properly cracked conversational Spanish (both with family and with strangers). Its still pretty limited and most strangers default to English anyway when they see how I look but I feel proud that I can express myself more.

more bleach posting, sorry: my favourite characters by far are Kurotsuchi and Kenpachi so I'm so happy they get a few chapters together later on. Kurotsuchi's Thousand Year Blood War Arc outfit utterly slaps, too

rereading Bleach (again) at the moment and remembering a lot of things I like about it. One of these is the kidō chants they do when they cast advanced spells, which (at least as far as I can tell) are just like cool-sounding abstract poems

the UK's new online safety act is *utterly* stupid and vastly overreaching. Other countries take note: we started with "mandatory age-verification face scan checks to access porn sites" (already insane) and we're now looking at losing Wikipedia?!

really like the animation on SF6 sagat, the way he holds himself... he'd gotten a bit generically muscly and chunky in the last few games, he looms a bit more awkwardly like he did in his sf2 sprite this time, it's more fun to make him a bit gangly.

this sounds mildly insane but I think Doom: The Dark Ages owes quite a lot to Banjo Kazooie in its overall design. Happy to elaborate on this if needed

the radiohead album The Bends turned 30 years old last week, they did a thing about it on the news. i loved that album a lot. a bunch of the first songs i ever learned to play on the guitar were from it, and we covered the title track in the band i was in at school.

we went to see The Monkey last night and it was so good. i liked Longlegs but felt like it didn't quite stick the ending, whereas everything here worked brilliantly, script, acting, tone. really tight, weird little story about death.

If the only criterion for something’s success is that it’s the most financially profitable use of a space, we’re going to have a pretty shitty world. You can always make more money out of something by squeezing it differently. The question is: is that all there is?
