Excited about this piece on fan-translations I'm working on, it's so rare to find writing in English about anything besides JPN->ENG. Most games never get official releases in more than a handful of languages. Everyone else needs 2nd language skills, guides & fan-translations - or just ignore text.

One of the things that gets lost in translation is how rhythmic & fun to read the prose of the original Journey to the West is. Best way I can describe it is "Imagine if Dragonball was Written instead of Drawn" Esp. when for most of its existence, this is how story would've actually been read:

Meanwhile the early draft of the CRPG Book looked like an 80s PC gaming magazine because that's what I associate with CRPG history lol Luckily I showed it to friends who are normal human beings and they were like "please don't".

perhaps the most egregious thing that happened with the Future Class was when The Game Awards took money from Old Spice in the name of the FC & simply... pocketed it it wasn't used to fund Future Class initiatives, it wasn't used to help lift marginalised developers they just profited from us

I was a member of TGA Future Class 2022 and lemmee tell ya, my skin has been crawling since pretty much every interaction I had with them (few) & story I heard about other members' interactions with them (many) was bad. & by bad I mean, so many shades of being used as photo op tokens & nothing more

This story is infinitely more important than GTA getting delayed. Don't let me catch you moaning about waiting longer for a video game if you're not mad about why it happened.

Yeah, I've got my own crowdfunding, but I can't not mention Apocalypse World 3e. Apocalypse World is one of the most influential games to arise out of the innovative indie side of gaming. It's literally created a whole subsector of the industry: Powered by the Apocalypse. A 3e is huge news.

Seconding this. The OG X-Com has seen an ENORMOUS modding renaissance in the past few years thanks to the OpenXCom engine. The best way to play it vanilla, as it fixes a ton of bugs and improves the UI. Some of the biggest mods dwarf the original game by a factor of ten times the content or more.

I'll never get used to how gacha games casually reveal MASSIVE spoilers because they really want you to login & pull the next big character they've released... Was on the goddamn train and the ads were spoiling Star Rail :P

Classic Musou review. The best games in the series - like SW2 and DW5&8 - all have 5/10 reviews calling them boring & lacking in innovation... Sengoku Basara 3 updated the formula, giving entirely unique playstyles to each character & stage... still got blasted with 4/10s from IGN and Gamespot :P

I'm glad that high-quality printed game magazines like APWOT exist, but I wish they made their content more accessible... physical-only is costly. The CRPG Book has 200,000+ free PDF downloads and that didn't stop the hardcover book from being a best-seller. If anything, it helped it sell more...

Is no secret that many game magazines were poorly-disguised sales catalogs for certain companies, but even that has to adapt to local realities. In 1993, Brazil got ProGamers magazine, backed by a chain of game rental / pay-by-hour stores. So issues came with tips on how to start your own store lol
