ELEX is a mess but looking back it honestly gave me some of my most memorable gaming moments this decade. It's an open-world RPG full of deadly encounters, but also reactive NPCs, fun tools & tons of jank. So you're like "I can come back later when I'm stronger... OR exploit my way to victory! :D"

To sum it up: Sword & Fairy 4 had combat QTEs since 2007. The remake's art direction is exactly the same since its reveal in Dec 2024. The combat UI is every modern JRPG ever, from Trails of Cold Steel III to Persona 5 to Star Rail. Goddamn those sneaky Chinese stealing from the saviors of JRPGs!

I randomly went back to Might & Magic X and it's such a early-2010s-ass game. It's loudly an "old-school RPG revival" with lots of passion, but feels more nostalgic than a great game by itself... shame the team could never do a M&M XI. Also, it supports widescreen but still feels better in 4:3 lol

Brazil unlocked Dragon Cult Incantations!

I came to terms with the fact I'll never go back & finish Dragon Age Veilguard, so I spoiled myself... I don't mind it copying Mass Effect 2 so much, but the Varric thing really bothered me :P I feel the consensus is that it's the weakest in the series? DA2 is a mess, but its highs are much higher.

Not sure if I should be recommending this during the holidays, but Neyasnoe is really impactful... and it's less than an hour long: store.steampowered.com/app/2435180/... I've seen other games & media portraying this sense of ennui / dying world, but the way Neyasnoe make you feel it is special.

Four games that defined my 2025

Played more War of Genesis, it's a fun sort of mixed bag. The story is great, constantly jumping between different parties, the art is gorgeous and combat is quite good, with cool optional challenges But there's balance issues, stiff exploration gameplay and some bad visuals that hurt the immersion

In the 90s, Korea had a very popular RPG series called War of Genesis, never released in English. In 2023, a Switch remake of War of Genesis II was made, but the studio shut down before a global release. HOWEVER, an English translation is hidden on the Korean release, you can unlock it with mods :O

Went to the Capcom museum exhibit today, was really fun. Lots of original artwork and fun interactive displays to check. Importantly, you could point and laugh at the US cover art for some games XD

Played like 2 hours of Séance of Blake Manor and it immediately became one of my GOTY candidates Impressive how it feels like a mix of Obra Dinn, Golden Idol, Blue Prince and Hellboy comics, but without being derivative.
