Lots of people talk about how becoming a parent made them more supportive of abortion rights. What becoming a parent radicalized me against parents' unaccountable power over their kids. Great to see this important problem get some attention ✊

My father used to argue that children were pieces of property. He discounted anything that would give kids autonomy (the concept of self-esteem, having a say, even having their own money) as "liberal brainwashing." He was a locally famous children's performer in the late 90s/2000s.
