Why does it matter what an action is called, so long as people are getting involved? Every time a "general strike" fizzles out, that weakens the power of the actual mechanism. A general strike is meant to send cold shivers down the state and bosses' spines. It is a threat. It is our nuclear option.

Boycotts are necessary! Big protests are necessary! Economic blackouts are necessary! Workers calling out sick or taking time off to support these causes is necessary! Mutual aid is BEYOND necessary! But they are not strikes.

I am so happy to see so many people directing their energy against these fucking fascists! It's good! It's also very true that strikes take WORK, can last a long time, need resources and infrastructure to succeed. I spent two YEARS covering a strike in Alabama that still hasn't been resolved.
