Tried out the arcade version of Rhythm Heaven at Mikado Game Center in Ikebukuro! It’s functionally an updated version of the GBA game, but also features multiplayer. It’s also the only Nintendo game on the legendary NAOMI.

personally i am highly in favor of physical games sticking around primarily because libraries having games to borrow is so cool. it's how i experienced the best sonic game since adventure, and i think that really added to the experience. and also the other reasons but that's preaching to the choir.

I'm enjoying seeing people post their favorite physical games - I'm honestly jealous. Back then, those did not exist in Brazil unless you were VERY wealthy. We just had CD cases full of pirate discs. Super cheap, but no box, no manual... some were just regular CD-Rs... I have no attachment to them.

I've always been curious if this was somehow better on VHS. As an anime, it's well known for being one of those early Digital series where they upscaled it really badly on later releases. So is it better? Even with VHS-Decode, nah not really. You could argue making it more blurry hides it though.

My parents were low income so I often just browsed game shops as a kid. Sometimes mum let me get a game. It'd cost her whole day's wage and a chunk of our rent. Dad once told me to check under the car seat and Pokemon Red was there in a bag. Ownership isn't the only thing we lose with physical media

Had the odd comment mentioning “sentimentality” in the Sony piece and listen: sentimentality is the point. Part of this is just about the fact we’re losing one of the final touchpoints of another world. It’s right to want to rage against that.
