It's a wrap for 2025, and here's my translation work that came out for the year (one image per series)! Sad to see the adorable glasses couple go, but also can't wait for some seriously cool projects coming out in 2026.

I recently discovered that there is a self-published print version of Is Love the Answer? (an asexual coming-of-age manga I had the pleasure of translating) that the author put out themselves. The Japanese version only had a digital release before. Each one is even signed!

Call of the Night S2 far exceeded my already high expectations, leaving a hole in my heart with no more weekly episodes to translate. Hopefully there'll be a S3? Please? Miyuki Sawashiro's top-notch voice acting absolutely stole the show, from Anko's unhinged banter to the heart-wrenching

Kudos to Behind The Manga for doing an interview with Mitsuru Hattori, mangaka of Wash It All Away! I love how when he answers about incorporated cleaning techniques in his everyday life, he says he uses what he learns from Miss Kinme (in the Japanese) as if she exists, which is very sweet somehow.

Finished volume 3 of Wash It All Away! The entire volume was focused on Kinme's personal life more than the previous vols. I think the author was trying something out here and I think they did a solid job at it! Hopefully we get more insight into her backstory soon! #manga

Sheltering Eaves 4 is out, and in addition to the heart-wrenching-to-hopeful turn the story takes, it includes what might have been the most challenging translation task I’ve ever taken on—a rap with meaning so integral to the plot, the story can’t move forward without it 🧵

This is actually something I’ve been mulling over recently, ever since someone mentioned that while things might seem much cheaper in Japan with the weak yen from the outside, that isn’t the experience living in Japan. New series I’ve had the pleasure of translating is coming out this week! A story about a woman running a garment cleaning service and discovering the local community of Atami, a hot spring resort town.♨️ There’s a touch of mystery about who she is that adds to the cozy vibe.

What?! More people should buy/read these! They’re an absolute delight. One even has a totally serious squirrel book club, and the clubhouse is decorated with little human curios. If you like fantastically paneled visual storytelling (and drawings of beautiful clouds) I urge you to check these out!

The final episode of Flower and Asura is coming out very soon! Musshu, who does the art for the original manga, wonders if Hana will intrude on the wedding to speak now instead of forever holding her peace. Stay tuned!

Perhaps the most adorable work I’ve had the pleasure of translating. Pen is so endearing and his relationship with his oblivious/careless owner makes him the definition of 不憫かわいい(you feel sorry for him but that also makes him cuter). Plus…penguins!

The literature in Flower and Asura has been tough to translate, especially since most are so well-known and beloved. Ep2 features Yamanashi by Kenji Miyazawa, a grade school textbook favorite. Like many literary greats, Miyazawa makes up new words to fit the worlds he creates, in this case #花修羅アニメ

With the first episode out, I guess I can announce that I'll be providing translations for Flower and Asura on HIDIVE this season! I think the anime adaptation just makes sense—the animation really brings the dramatic readings to life in this episode.

Sheltering Eaves vol. 1 is out! As with Perfect World, Rie Aruga-sensei depicts sensitive issues with so much care and a ton of research. I promise you'll be invested in what the future holds for Yoru and Tenjaku. I only hope we do this series the justice it deserves.

I thought it was cool we had a whole 151 Pokémon back in the day, but now I need to know more than 1,000 to keep up with my kids, who keep throwing around both the Japanese and English names interchangeably. My daughter made a PowerPoint for us the other day. There was even a test. I kid you not.
