Thinking I should have floppy disk business cards made one day for if I ever go to a con. Could put some bonus content actually on the disks for anybody with a drive.

Had a long drive today to visit the folks so I listened to Australian national news radio (ABC) in the car. In a twenty minute report on "peace plans" and the "war" in Gaza the word genocide wasn't mentioned once. So that's still where we are apparently. UN findings be damned.

Cancel most of your streaming services. Keep 1 or 2 at a time and rotate them out every few months to see the stuff you want to see, even if it's later on. Rent DVDs from libraries. Use the money you save to buy more physical media and go out to dinner at locally owned restaurants with your friends.

A lot of people assume that Amsterdam has been biketopia since time immemorial but it actually was car hell for decades before the citizens became fed up with car fatalities and forced the government to rebuild everything around mass transit and bikes. It took time and will, but they did it.

Things can, and do, get better.

It can be hard to switch the gamedev brain off sometimes! Can be trying to enjoy -playing- a game and instead find myself analyzing how they achieved certain visual effects, or the layout of the UI, etc.

I've said it many times but I will say it again: the drive to AI is a drive to constant, regular interactivity. There is enjoyment in spending an hour being interacted with -- that is the actual primary driver of so much of this behavior. The product of the interaction is secondary at best.

one thing which really impressed me on this rewatch is that the photography in this is really very good, especially the way they shoot landscapes. screenshots aren't fair to it, these are very much constructed as moving things. almost all pan and have movement in the form of flowing mist or water.
