Just about worth a mention is the brief arrival of southerly air via France today/tonight, before a cold front introduces cooler air from the west this eve. There may be 1-2 arrivals from N. Africa in the Saharan dust fall however the chances of catching a scarcer species is pretty low. #teammoth

My friend Claudia texted me yesterday to report a Hummingbird Hawk-moth in her Highgate front garden. I sometimes trap at her place (e.g. where I caught the Four-spotted Footman) and she knows her nature well enough to be certain. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social #TeamMoth

A mid-December Palpita vitrealis worthy of a mention. One of 9 species which also included 2 White-speck, Diamond-back, Turnip, Crocidosema plebejana, Yellow-line Quaker and 13 December Moth. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social

Best from the traps were another White-speck and two very late Red-line Quaker, plus 10 December Moth. Forgot to mention a late (and very tatty) Red Admiral in the garden yesterday. @migrantmothuk.bsky.social

If there are any arrivals this week it's likely to be today & especially tomorrow. There should be a window of calmer weather first thing this evening, before the wind picks up to gale force in the west. With cool conditions over N Africa the number of dispersing insects will be low. #teammoth

In a break in the torrential rain, I went up to the Allotment by the Sea and was rewarded by finding this beautiful rare Crimson Speckled Flunkey (what a name!) taking shelter in one of the dahlias. They come from North Africa: must be a bit shellshocked by Cornwall in November. #garden #moth

one of the better looking moffs i've seen, this crimson speckled eventually settled not far from the bench near the sailing club, was quite surprised how butterfly like it's flight was and didn't realise what it was until it settled.

Several migrants at the garden and work traps overnight in Plymouth. At home, 97 RDP, Silver Y, RV & P.vitrealis among 149/19 The work trap had 27 RDP, Radford's, 2 DBM, 3 P.vitrealis, 3 White-speck, White-point & Angle Shades among 90/20. Also a Cosmopolitan found by a security light #teammoth
