Dungeness RSPB: A curlew Sandpiper from Firth

Dungeness: A few bits from around the peninsula today. Shag is still a scarce bird here, this one showing well at the fishing boats. One of 3 Glossy Ibis around the reserve today. At least 1 Garganey still hanging on, this one on Burrowes and the local Little Owl sun bathing. #UKBirding #Kentbirding

Dungeness: The definite highlight of this afternoons sea watch with Richard from the fishing boats. The USS Gerald R Ford Aircraft Carrier an impressive ship covered in aircraft, escorted by USS Winston S Churchill.

Dungeness: The bushes were full of Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps with smaller numbers of Goldcrests, also a few Wheatears at most sites. #UKbirding #Kentbirding

This afternoon on Walland Marsh at the back of Scotney GPs I re-found the Buff-breasted Sandpiper c1mile away, in the same field that @mjlbirder.bsky.social found a BBS a few years ago. Very nice to have it all to myself while waiting for locals to arrive. #UKBirding #Sussexbirding

I Spent most of my day cycling around Scotney/Walland Marsh. Around Midday I saw a distant bunch of Corvids harassing and dive bombing something obscured by a line of reeds, a little further on and I could see a brown lump which materialised into a White-tailed Eagle through the binos. #UKBirding

I was out on my bike at Scotney making my way to check on the AGP, when a message came through that a Buff-breasted Sandpiper had been reported in the same field as the AGP by Colin Holter. A few minutes later I was on site watching the bird. Many thanks Colin. #UKBirding #Sussexbirding

Dungeness: A few of todays Manx Shearwaters came past the fishing boats almost along the shoreline late morning, absolutely bonkers. #UKBirding #Kentbirding

Dungeness: An excellent day staring out to sea at a procession of Sooty Shearwaters, most were distant but some came in close, shame the Storm Petrels were all brief and quite distant, also Manx and Balearic Shearwaters and our first Red-throated Diver of the Autumn. #UKBirding #KentBirding

The American Golden Plover was still in its chosen field at Jurys Gap though a little distant. On the Dungeness RSPB reserve the one eyed, Cross billed Red-backed Shrike continues to show well along the entrance track to the visitor centre. #UKBirding

Dungeness: Red-backed Shrikes and Common Redstarts, Lots of migrant Warblers around today, as well as Spotted and Pied Flycatcher but I was more excited by seeing a Jay by the Long Pits, my first on the peninsula this year. #UKbirding #Kentbirding

Dungeness: This juvenile Long-tailed Skua came along the shoreline at the fishing boats this afternoon, I didn't see it until it was right in front of me, by the time I grabbed the camera I could only photograph its rear end as it went away. Dungeness: Pectoral Sandpiper from Hanso was today's highlight, many thanks to JY for the call. First view was through a deluge, it crouched right down when a Hobby came through, a Great White Egret leapt up in front of the hide while we were watching the Pec. #UKBirding #Kentbirding

At Jurys Gap I was surprised to see 5 Curlew Sandpipers in the the field with the Golden Plovers, even more surprised when a Dotterel dropped in, sadly no sign of the American Golden Plover though only a small portion of the Golden Plover flock was present. #UKBirding #Sussexbirding

The Juvenile Red-backed Shrike on the reserve seems to have some problems. Its right eye is damaged or missing, it appears to have a crossbill and to top it all it thinks its an acrobat. But it had no trouble feeding taking several Great Green Bush Crickets. #UKbirding #Kentbirding

Dungeness: 2 juvenile Red-backed Shrikes on the peninsular today.The first one on the East side of Long Pits found by James, the 2nd and more photogenic was by the return trail on the RSPB reserve. Just before it roosted it coughed up a pellet. #UKbirding #Kentbirding

This morning while in The Desert Owen found a Wryneck which quickly melted away. This afternoon myself and Ray found a moulting adult American Golden Plover at Jurys Gap, shame about the appalling heat haze. Nearby there were c50 Yellow Wagtails on the Scotney Sward. #UKBirding #SussexBirding

First "Scrub bash " of the late Summer/Autumn at #dungeness first thing ,had an hours "Butterflying " before kick off ,amongst probably 30 + Small Coppers was this Aberrant individual AB; Cuprinus .Also a single Clouded Yellow #butterflies#insects

A few more pix of the Zitter at Dunge today. Like the Walberswick bird, covering a large area, flying high and very vocal this morning. I think if I'm correct this will be the 12th UK record and therefore trumps my Bridled Tern from 1991, the 13th UK record. Ok which species would be an 11th for UK🙂
