I was photographing Sandwich Terns this afternoon at Selsey Bill and noticed that many of them have started to moult already. @selseybirder.bsky.social #birds #ukbirds

152 species recorded in May, four above average, but 13 below last year’s extraordinary total of 165. Year list equals last year's record total at this point of 198; nine additions in the month: Beeeater, Puffin, Temmincks Stint, Roseate Tern, Turtle Dove, Spot Fly, Nightjar, Storm Petrel and Quail.

Fascinating example of the workings of modern social media, togging and AI 'editing': the same photo of a Turtle Dove that's clearly been run through AI in some way before being posted on two different Facebook groups three days apart by two apparently different people (we've blanked out the names)

Norfolk Hawkers at Nunnery Lake Chichester this afternoon, very fast moving in the heat!

Also good to see two broods of very young Pochards - one of 5 ducklings, one of 3. Quite a difference in female & duckling colouration between the two broods.

The first time I’ve ever got an acceptable Dragonfly in flight photo. With the number I deleted it makes me realise how much more practice I need, and how skilful some of the photographers on here are! This was one of at least 6 Norfolk Hawkers at Chichester Gravel Pits at lunchtime. #dragonfly
