A ‘refreshing’ wind made me glad I bought winter clothing when living in Wisconsin so I stayed nice and toasty. Two flocks of Golden Plover were new birds for my sector. Lots of nervous Dunlin with a Sparrowhawk cruising around. Any New Year cobwebs well and truly blown away now.

A Raven in Honer 1 Pagham North Wall field was the highlight of a family walk this morning. Three WFronts still present in Honer 2, couple of M Harriers about and a few Redwings the best of the rest.

The distant Long-tailed Duck off Church Norton this morning. There were also 3 Slavonian Grebes and a couple of Red-throated Divers, one of which drifted close. #birds #ukbirds #birding

Without even trying I had my best ever NY’s day with 77 species from Selsey Bill, Pagham Harbour & WWT Arundel. Highlights included 30+ RT Divers, 3 Peregrines, Firecrest, Goosander, Marsh Tit & finishing it off in style - the male Hen Harrier into roost at WWT. And all under glorious skies. 🤞2026

A sedate start to the year but a few Selsey area scarcities tracked down: Woodcock, Coal Tit, Treecreeper and White-fronted Goose being the best. I couldn't find the BN Grebe on Pagham Lagoon though.

Peninsula round up for November: 150 species recorded breaking the previous record by three birds (2017 & 2023). Only two additions in the month to the year total being Pallas Warbler and Goosander, taking the annual total to date to a record high of 219

Four additions in October taking the year list to 217, just one short of the annual record from last year. Y B Warbler, Whooper Swan, Brambling and Pallid Swift. The October total of 159 species was the second highest ever recorded and three short of the 2019 record!
