The 2 Temminck's Stints were still feeding on Pilning Wetland at 6.30 pm. showing well in decent light for a change on the 1st pool (Butts Pool) past the building.

The two Temminck's Stints have reappeared on Pilning Wetland. Currently on the first pool after the building(Butts Pool).

The excellent run of patch birds continued this morning with these 2 dinky Temminck's Stint picked up by @oscardewhurst.bsky.social that spent just over an hour on Pilning Wetland before flying strongly NE. An adult Spoonbill made an even briefer appearance #ukbirding

An exciting early morning at Pilning Wetland with 2 Temminck's Stints and then a Spoonbill dropping down briefly before all departing NE and up the Severn. Now 161 species seen on the Patch so far this year, definitely an exciting month to be out. A few back lit record shots.

Another early morning find by @andy-1963.bsky.social at Piling Wetland. Our 3rd patch record of Black-winged Stilts. Park carefully and sensibly. Do not block the road as it is bin day. View from seawall or public footpaths only.

An early morning dog walk at Severn Beach produced 4 Grey Plover, a few Dunlin, Whimbrels and a single Curlew. A newly arrived Sanderling was seen later on Pilning Wetland wader pool with a few more Dunlin.

The first day of May has historically been a good day on Severnside. Today hasn't yet produced anything rare for me but seeing my first Cuckoo of the year at Severn Beach was good enough for me. A record flock of 12 Cattle Egret dropped onto Northwick Warth found by @matthall95.bsky.social

The Wood Sandpiper from 2 days ago has reappeared on Piling Wetland this morning. A great bird even in distant heat shimmer.

Severn Beach produced a Dark-bellied Brent Goose early morning and a Pale bellied bird flew North there this evening when 100's of Terns, a few Little Gulls, an Arctic Skua, flocks of Whimbrel, a few Bar-tailed Godwit, 12 Med Gulls etc. were seen. I papped Arctic Terns flying East beneath the Moon.

The Severn Beach migration watch up to 6pm totalled 60 (10+50) Black Tern, single Little Tern & Arctic Tern, 79 Common Tern, 30 "Commic" Tern, 192 Little Gulls, 7 Grey Plover, 70 Whimbrel, 61 Bar-tailed Godwit, 4 Greenshank & 26 Yellow Wagtail. I saw some of them and a very obliging local Kestrel.

At least 3 Grey Plover were seen at Severn Beach this morning but not yet in full breeding plumage.

A decent number of Bar-tailed Godwits and Whimbrel were still moving up the estuary at Severn Beach this morning. Some roosting before being pushed off by the rising tide.

A male Whinchat was still present on the Severn Beach salt marsh this morning for it's 2nd day.

Another nice 2 hr vismig watch at Severn Beach this morn. Most birds NE. Highlights were: 2 Red Kite* (SW) Sandwich Tern 14 Swift Grey Wagtail* 6 Yellow Wagtail* 39 Whimbrel 29 Bar-tailed Godwit Whinchat again 109 Goldfinch* 6 Siskin www.trektellen.org/count/view/5... @severnsidebirds.bsky.social

Some more flocks of Bar-tailed Godwits totalling about 200 birds plus a few Whimbrel, single Grey Plover, Sanderling, Swift, Grasshopper Warbler and Redstart were also present this morning. Most of the Godwits and Whimbrel departed on their journey to the North.

Following on from this morning's migrant flock of Bar-tailed Godwits at Severn Beach, I hoped for some more on the evening high tide. Within 5 minutes of stepping onto the sea wall at least 100 flew over and headed inland and North East. At dusk another group of 18 were seen on the shoreline.

A few more signs of migration this morning with flock of 29 Bar-tailed Godwits off Severn Beach a few Whimbrel on Northwick Warth where the highlight was the sight 4 Cranes heading up river before gaining height and heading East.

A few new migrants today but less variety and numbers than hoped for. Two male Wheatears on the salt marsh at Severn Beach and 3 Yellow Wagtails at New Passage provided a dash of colour.

After plodding around the patch early morning and eventually connecting with Grasshopper Warbler on a 2nd visit, news broke of Red-rumped Swallow at Sand Point. A foray off patch ensued and in less than hour I was fortunate to see it feeding. Many thanks @andy-1963.bsky.social for the great find.

The Greenshank was still showing well this morning close to the public footpath at Pilning Wetland. Other birds of note today included the first Lesser Whitethroat of the year at the Wetland & the first Common Tern of the year off windy Severn Beach where 16 Kittiwakes lingered over the high tide.

The cooler grey weather today stalled the arrival of many new migrants but it was a pleasure to see the Greenshank close up on Pilning Wetland from the public footpath near the rear wader pool.

A good selection and Patch firsts for the year today including Cuckoo, Reed Warbler, Yellow Wagtail and a rare Nuthatch along with more Sandwich Terns, Marsh Harrier, 3 Sedge Warbler, 4 Whitethroat and Great White Egret.

The warm weather produced a few birds today; Sandwich Terns are just about annual here so 11 heading NE was a good record. Other patch sightings included Marsh Harrier, Red Kite, 3 Grey Plover, GW Egret, the 1st Red-legged Partridge since 2019, 2 Greenshank, LRP'S, 4 Avocets, 7 Wheatear etc.

Two Little Terns feeding in Cake Pill at Aust Warth this morning were the earliest patch record by 2 weeks. Also new for the year were 2 Greenshank and a Sedge Warbler at New Passage/Pilning Wetland.

A wet and windy afternoon at Severn Beach produced the first 3 Arctic Skuas of the year making there way North (one from my bedroom window). Also at least 900 Kittiwakes including a flock settled close enough to hear them calling. Several hundred eventually flew high NE towards the Midlands.

A murky wet day with an increasing strength South West wind produced a very distant Common Scoter off Severn Beach plus another adult Little Gull feeding over Pilning Wetland where I also saw my 1st House Martin of the year with 35 Sand Martins.

Another good day for additions to the all comers patch year list with 4 new species found. I managed to see the drake Red-breasted Merganser but didn't see the Willow Warbler, House Martin or the 11 Gannets lost in the mist at Severn Beach. The Ruff found yesterday was still on Pilning Wetland.

A few more signs of Spring today in the Pilning Wetland/Northwick Warth area including the first 2 Little Gulls of the year. I missed the Sand Martins, Wheatear, Scandinavian Rock Pipit and Merlin seen by others earlier.

Another windy day and more Kittiwakes at Severn Beach today. At least 130 were present early afternoon.

Strong West or South West winds in March always produce Kittiwakes off Severn Beach and today was no exception. At least 60 were lingering before and after high tide.

The Hooded Merganser reappeared this morning on Pilning Wetland after 2 weeks away. It is still very wary & flighty. Please park sensibly with care and allow access for the refuse lorries tomorrow. One option is to park at Severn Beach and take the pleasant walk North along the Severn Way footpath.

Another dismal grey day. A Great Crested Grebe found by @andy-1963.bsky.social on the estuary near my house at Severn Beach was my first here for 2 years. There seem to be plenty of newly arrived singing Chiffchaff in the area and 2 Little Ringed Plover were still on Pilning Wetland.

Despite being a much cooler day with North East wind I found my first 2 Sand Martins of the year feeding over Pilning Wetland. Also present were 2 Little Ringed Plover, 200 Knot and at least 5 singing Chiffchaff in the area.

A late afternoon and 3rd visit of the day to Pilning Wetland produced another early Spring migrant; a Little Ringed Plover on the 1st sentry pool plus the 2nd Cattle Egret of the year. Must be a chance of Sand Martins in the next few days......

Three Wheatears were welcome Spring arrivals on Northwick Warth this morning. Luckily this nice male stayed close to the footpath.

A few signs of Spring today with displaying Lapwing and a summer plumage Black-tailed Godwit on Pilning Wetland where 2 Jack Snipe were with 13 Snipe. A flock of 11 Kittiwakes were lingering off Severn Beach on the afternoon high tide.

Nobody was expecting this today. A short video of the Hooded Merganser on Pilning Wetland this afternoon. Hopefully it will be there tomorrow in better weather and light.

A visit to Severn Beach on this morning's high tide produced 4 Brent Geese, at least 3 adult Mediterranean Gulls and a Scandinavian Rock Pipit (for 3rd day). Meanwhile a Little Stint, Jack Snipe and a Water Pipit were found on Northwick Warth.

An amazing day and another Great find by @andy-1963.bsky.social with this flighty and apparently unringed Hooded Merganser on Pilning Wetland and a brief visit onto the estuary as well.

The first decent Westerly wind of the year failed to produce any seabirds at Severn Beach this morning but an adult Kittiwake further up river at New Passage is the first for the year
