Visit to Western D this morning, at least 3 male red veined darters, one in cop with a female. Seen egg laying too. Also a Lesser Emperor patrolling the pond edge (no Photo). My first this year. A Clouded yellow also flew past. Thats 2 i have seen this week, the other at orchard pools. #Dragonflies

Spotted Redshank is just about an annual visitor to Pilning Wetland. Usually seen in the Autumn so a nice breeding plumage individual found by @oscardewhurst.bsky.social this morning forced me out into the heat. A few distant (100+ metre) snaps in the heat haze attached.

I think it's a juvenile Pied Wagtail. Grey Wagtail usually show some yellow on the rump/uppertail and undertail/lower belly. Too hot outside for me today.

One of our regular reminders to ensure you put the welfare of rare breeding birds first, and don't cause unnecessary and possibly illegal disturbance.

Today's additions of Turtle Dove and Spotted Flycatchers puts the Severnside Patch year list on 165 species by mid May. Hopefully the addition of Garganey and a Curlew Sandpiper will increase the chances of a new record 190 species by the end of the year. Not bad for a narrow 10 Km strip of estuary.

Got a singing Great Reed Warbler at Noah’s hide, Shapwick. Chilly and breezy here, haven’t seen it yet 🍺🙂👍
