The hedges around the Ross on Wye patch were alive with ‘whooeet’ calling redstarts this morning with at least 5 seen including ad male, 3 fem & 1 juv, also lesser whitethroats, hobby including lots of calling from nest site, a few moving swallows hawking around and 2 juv little grebes #patchbirding

A slow day on patch with m&f redstarts still present on Pengethley Farm, 2 passage whitethroats, no fresh migrants at irrigation res but now 9 coots(!). Hobby sitting in stubble then hunting swallows. Fem yellowhammer carrying food, 7 swifts and first ad common gull of autumn south #patchbirding

Yesterday 5 yellow wags amongst a single field of winter wheat next to a beetle bank and unsprayed spring barley including two pairs and at least another male was a relief after an early lack of the species on patch, around 4/5 territories now establishing around Sellack, Ross on Wye #farmlandbirds
