A chilly morning at RSPB Pulborough Brooks where I led a walk for Chichester Natural History Society. Lots of birdlife with the flocks of Lapwings and the breeding plumage Ducks looking particularly stunning in the morning sun. A little flock of Redwing & Fieldfare a nice way to finish a fun stroll.

It’s definitely sorting out photos weather today. Luckily that’s what I planned to do after being in Laos & Singapore for the last 2 weeks. Here are some birds with stonking great bills to start things off. These are all from Singapore.

Yesterday I led a SOS/Chichester RSPB group walk to The Burgh. The highlight was a gorgeous male Hen Harrier. Conditions were getting worse but this provides a template for a future photo I want to get - a grey ghost in front of Arundel castle & cathedral. One day 🤞

Sometime in the late 80’s a pair of Mute Swans nested in the garden (next to the greenhouse). We couldn’t hang washing out because the cob would rip it off the line, but generally they were pretty chill and it was a real treat to witness.

Very high tide = lots of waders on my

count in Chichester Harbour. A glorious day but I think t-shirt weather in November is not a sign of a healthy planet! Several passers by looked through my scope (for the first time) and were blown away by the density of birds.

Not surprisingly there was a smaller than usual turnout for our Chichester RSPB Group walk at Pulborough Brooks this morning, but the birds were active before the rain came. Redpolls, Redwings & Fieldfare, Ruff, Golden Plover & Peregrine amongst the highlights. And the reserve needs the rain!

The long staying Osprey at Arundel performed as requested for the Tuesday Birders this morning, at one point flying right over our heads. Two juvenile Hobbies were also on The Hanger. Redpolls, Redwing, Coal Tit, Cattle Egret and Mandarin Duck were amongst the other goodies.

My new tour starts in ONE WEEK! Very excited to get back out on the road with this show. To be brutally honest, sales have been lower than I would have hoped after last year's tour, but I know times are tough and there are a lot of people on tour at the moment! 1/2

It was eyes to the skies for the Chichester RSPB Group at Pagham this morning. Two Hobbies gave great & prolonged views, & Peregrine and Sparrowhawk were seen in the same airspace. 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Snipe, female Marsh Harrier and a Fox on Ferry Pool. Lots of Stonechat activity as well.

An Osprey was a nice consolation for missing the Little Stint at Pagham North Walls late morning. And finally got a chance to connect with some of the Curlew Sandpiper influx (4). My first Brent Geese (3) of the autumn as well. A nice variety with 65 species seen.

How much money do you need to get Owen & Quentin from the ‘Listers’ documentary on to GAM to cover this? It would be epic. Just let me know how much I need to send? (If you haven’t seen Listers it’s brilliant, and the post credit sequence is perfect for PIAT).

An Osprey over the house was a new garden bird this morning. It joins WT Eagle, Hobby & Red Kite, but I’ve not yet had the Chichester Peregrines over, even though they nest only 1.5 miles away! As I’m in a new build estate most of my house list is flyovers so Osprey is on it, Dunnock isn’t!
