Diurnea lipsiella in the garden trap this morning is the first record for VC65. I have now had more species in the garden this year than in any previous year, having just pipped the record total in 2022.

The Coleophora sp. larval cases I found on sea purselane by the Humber Estuary last October turned out to be C. salinella! Only recorded in Yorkshire for the first time in August last year (I suspect it's been there a while though). #TeamMoth #YorkshireMoths @doublekidney.bsky.social

Isophrictis striatella in the garden trap this morning is new for for VC65. We just need it in VC64 now, then it will be in all Yorkshire VCs. No tansy or sneezewort nearby so I don't know where it has come from.

For all those who send me specimens for dissection, I am not accepting any more for the next two months. I've had to pay postage-due charges several times this year, and the latest has cost me a fiver - no stamp on at all. If it continues, I will levy a charge. A fiver a moth sounds reasonable.

New to Cornwall - Yponomeuta irrorella (Scarce Spindle Ermine), taken at light at St. Mellion (VC2) on 26/6/25. Y. irrorella has been taken as new to several counties this past week. It seems likely that the moths dispersed here from the near Continent with other Yponomeuta species. #teammoth

Grapholita lobarzewskii has appeared in a further two vice-counties in the last week (all to pheromones), VC65 and 62, so that's all vice Yorkshire VCs now. It's romping across the country.

Coleophora anatipennella (gen. det.) in the trap this morning is a new moth for the garden. Rare in VC65.

In the last two or three years in Yorkshire we have had increasing numbers of V-moths. They seem to be recovering a little, and starting to appear in areas where they used to occur. I went 17 years without a record but have had three in recent years. Here is one from the garden trap this morning.

Perfect conditions for mothing in St Mellion, resulted in a total of 141 species, including lots of migrants. Highlights were Euchromius ocellea (Silver-spotted Veneer), 49 Small Mottled Willow (they were everywhere!), Bordered Straw, 2 Small Marbled and Purple Marbled (new to the garden) #teammoth

Two new moths for my garden this week, both not uncommon in the area but have been avoiding paying me a visit until now. Hedya ochroleucana and Pammene aurana.

Grapholita lobarzewskii to the SKI lure at Mickley today is the first record for VC64. Spreading quite rapidly.
