Artificial food attracting Willow Tits to fixed spot 20+ times per hour, overstimulating their hoarding instinct with endless food. Never happens with natural food sources. Makes Willow Tits very predictable for birders- and Sparrowhawks, which need to get lucky just once to wipe out this territory.

Fine breezy morning, perfect for raptors in the Peak. 12 Buzzard (9 kettling at once), Red Kite, 2 Sprawk, male Peregrine, pair of Goshawk in display, the male later chased by a male Sprawk (startling size difference), Juv Goshawk, 4 Raven, 2 Goosander over, 24 Siskin, 2 Redpoll and 6 Greenfinch.

Hard to get accurate number but 500+ Lapwing and 20 Goldies on Screetham lane in a damp field before the triangle this afto. 6 Tree Sparrow, 3 Blings at NBritain with finch flock. Displaying Goshawk pair nearby, 4 Raven over, 2 RKite, 2 Sprawk #UKBirding @derbyshirebirds.bsky.social

Finally finished the new peregrine nest box today. Just some clearing up, fitting cameras and a few minor tweaks. Oh, plus an abseil to remove the sagging base of our old platform, of course.

Tony’s farm, Uppertown this morning with the thermal. Ponds are bigger now & it wasn’t easy to find Jack Snipe but 1 in the boggy field. Woodcock also found, 2 Jay, Buzzard, Raven, 60 Redwing, 12 Fieldfare, 1 Yellowhammer, 2 Bullfinch. Nearby, adult Peregrine, juvenile female Goshawk, 6 Crossbill.
