Birder and moth-er, Derbyshire.
A disappointing result last night with only 15/10. The first Cinnabar of the year was the obvious highlight.
#TeamMoth
Streamer 2, Brindled Beauty 2, Early Grey, Depressaria radiella amongst the rest.

11/8 from a wet & windy Cromford last night. Nothing nfy but I'm pretty sure Early Tooth-striped is nfg.

I found a couple of these larvae in the garden today between spun leaves of Greater Willowherb. I did consider Celypha lacunana but Clepsis spectrana has been muted, and seems a decent bet?

Probably not identifiable from these pics, but any suggestions?

I'm fairly confident this is Incurvaria pectinea rather than I.masculella. One of 2 from last night in Bow Wood. This one is a male, with the bipectinate antennae.

Any comments welcome.

Just back from another stint in Bow Wood. Lunar Marbled Brown x2 nfy, 2 Purple Thorn, Early Thorn, Water Carpet, 25 Brindled Pug, Satellite amongst the best. Also 2 of what I suspect are Incurvaria pectinea, which would be nfm (tbc)

Inspired by the sunshine, a trip up Rose End Meadows with the net. An early Grapholita jungiella was the only mothy reward but several Peacock butterflies and Tawny mining bees were on the wing 🙂

An utterly ridiculous decision to run last night yielded 4 hardy moths. Pine Beauty (first garden record this year), Brindled Beauty, Hebrew Character and Emmelina monodactyla.

At least the trap was in one piece this morning 🙂

A similar set of moths to yesterday, so I won't record most as there's likely retrap involved. The only certain garden year tick was this Streamer.

Also another Water Carpet up at Carsington. Curlew over the garden and adult Kittiwake through Carsi.

Only 35/7 from a couple of hours in Bow Wood but a couple of nice species. Semioscopis avellanella x3 is only the 2nd VC57 record (previous 2011). No doubt it's present in much of the ancient Birch woodland in the area?

Garden lurkers this afternoon we're a 3rd Early Thorn and a very fresh D-sPug. The Scarlet Tiger caterpillars seem to have moved onto the Green Alkanet and are increasing in size.

A couple of moths on the hide door again at Carsington (light over door). Water Carpet was nfy, but also yet another Lead-coloured Drab! There's a chance it could be the same individual from 6 days ago which I released 150 metres away 🤷

Severe moth withdrawal setting in here after 5 days without a trap, symptoms include: 1. Repeated checking of phone weather apps. 2. Wandering outside and gazing skyward. 3. General irritability. 4. Considering leaf mines 😬 5. Ridiculous urge to trap tonight in cold and wet conditions.

No trapping last night but a little something found on the outside of the bird hide at Carsington this morning. Can anyone offer any thoughts on what's happening with Lead-coloured Drab? Two records for me in a few days of a species that's considered mega rare here?
