Some nice moths in the traps at Selsey this morning, Eastern Bordered Straw being only the second county record. Striped Hawkmoth always good to see.

Glad to have Salsify flowering on my garden. I bought seeds from you and hoped for the best, nurturing them in a pot for year 1 and planting them out in year 2.

Good to see the Salsify plants brightening up the garden. I bought seeds of this ancient vegetable from the Gilbert White Museum, it has a lovely flower.

As a reward for a steep uphill climb this morning I came across a thermalling group of Buzzards, Ked Kites and a juvenile White-tailed Eagle above the South Downs by Kingley Vale. Its the closest eagle I've seen so far but my little camera has limitations and the light wasn't that good.

A beautiful early morning at Kingley Vale where redstarts and spotted flycatchers had gathered to feed in the sheltered coombe, sometimes the two species fly catching from the same tree.

Confiding bank vole seen near the car park at Church Norton this evening. It eventually picked up a leaf and disappeared down a tiny hole at the base of a tree.

Best birds always seem to turn up in the worst weather. Record shots of the Red-necked Phalarope found by Adam B on Ferry Pool this afternoon.

It's a super time of year. House Martins at Itchenor are laying claim to their artificial nests (3 pairs so far) whilst up the road at the village pond the first Chaffinches are fledging.

White-fronted Goose showing nicely in the fields alongside the road to Oving/Tangmere, Nr Chichester this morning. It had a massive field to feed in and had Greylags, Egyptian and Canada Geese for company.

Close views of newly arrived Sand Martins @ WWT Arundel today as they inspected the Sand Martin Wall. Also first Coot chicks, a pair of colourful Mandarin Ducks (one sadly with injured leg) and Cuckooflower in bloom. Busy there today but pleasant nonetheless.

I only started seeing Blackcaps in the garden when I let the ivy grow bigger, flower and fruit. Now they've become a spring regular and I watch out for these charming birds during March.

Lovely to catch up with the stunning little Bluethroat at Broadlands Park, Worthing today. After hiding in the reedbed half an hour it showed beautifully for the admiring crowd.

Great to see these Barnacle Geese at Halseys Farm, Pagham Harbour today. Not having my scope I missed out on the flock of Redpoll but hope to return later. These birds were nice and close.
