I do think rape is so normalized & minimized that men who rape women justify it to themselves & never think of it again. People like to believe they aren't capable of monstrous actions (& no one could have the power to accuse them of such). But I disagree men truly don't know.

Men become defensive & fall in line if solidarity around men because they want to uphold male supremacist power but also because they know, on some level, they have raped people & don't want similar accountability coming for them too.
