Antifascism looks like Pedro Pascal. It looks like Alex Pretti and AOC. It looks like 600 priests, imams, and rabbis in the cold streets of winter Minneapolis. Antifascism is gorgeous.

Put another way, the entire adult userbase is going to have to upload their IDs to sketchy third-party companies and link their identities to their online activity to stop a few dozen kids from accessing a platform that is mainly left-leaning news and commentary. What problem is this solving?

Mamdani is a masterclass too many failed to learn. He didn't run as gender blind, as he acknowledged & supported women's struggles, but he didn't center his gender to pander to men anxious about their masculinity. He didn't rely on cringy bravado or offer to be anyone's daddy.

Alarming story that confirms my own reporting along similar lines: Dan Moraff, the political strategist who plucked Graham Platner out of obscurity to run for senate and barely vetted him, was barred from Rep. Summer Lee’s 2022 campaign after three complaints of sexual misconduct.

In a fun note, Mike Elk used to email me off the clock to tell me that his girlfriend asking him to pay for his half of the abortion was the same as sexual assault, and telling me that he liked to "break evil women" like me. This was because I asked him to stop yelling at women at work.

This is true but I think it's important to point out that women feel compelled to soften their language & show they can be objective as a means of seeking credibility. Women are, by default, viewed as untrustworthy & malicious. When women report abusive men, they try to appear fair, not vindictive.

One takeaway from this story is that the woman took a stand & protected women from an abuser, potentially risking her political ambitions. Not any of the men. It's a woman who had the moral fortitude not to go along & support the boys' network of protecting & elevating abusive men.

and the ones preemptively constructing redemption arcs for him are not just acting out of morally pure disinterested belief in general and universal concern for the salvation of a good christian soul: they're making sure that road remains open for themselves and for all men, no matter what.

the lesson we are learning is that cis men have gender-class consciousness and understand the solidarity principle of "an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us." challenging any one man's right to rape is throwing ALL men's power into question. they are defending their collective power.

It's very funny to me when a man running defense for a man who abuses women attempts to legitimize his solidarity by declaring he's not personally a fan. Yeah, we know men support men they don't know, even don't like, because it's class solidarity, not blind loyalty to a friend.

platner's playbook of using the language of liberatory struggle to imply that he is the victim of a conspiracy (perhaps by "zionists") is sickeningly familiar to anyone who has ever had to deal with the awful, miserable, drawn out process of removing an abuser from a radical or liberatory space.

It was a moving contrast of two victims because no, victims do not follow scripts & act in any one certain way. And even a centuries old vampire can struggle to articulate & process a horrific event. But the familiar trauma was shared by both.

In rape culture, everything a woman says means yes and nothing she says means no. This seems to assert that though she said not to come over, said no repeatedly, struggled against Platner, an ambiguous prior comment constituted irrevocable consent. Not a shocking breach not to include it.

We really need to talk about how appealing sexual abuse allegations are to voters of all claimed politics.

I think it's also that a man who asserts physical power over a woman also believes he has authority to dictate to her what happened & define it. Same as the rape apologists. Rapists tell their victims how they're allowed to feel about it & perceive him because he's the main character & authority.

Trying to pick apart a woman's text messages to prove she's lying about being raped is gutter behavior. Consent can be revoked at any time and reading insinuations into text messages that the sender denies were there is ACTUAL journalistic malpractice. I would not trust a man who does this!
