Local police departments do things like this all the time all over the country. It’s not unique to NYPD or the World Cup. They see every street event or farmers market or festival as a risk in need of mitigation with massive physical hardening from vehicle ramming attacks. It’s out of proportion.

At the Bellevue Council tonight, members of the Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) Bellevue coalition are pushing for the city to back its Vision Zero pledge up with funding and accelerate work to make Bellevue streets safer. They're pushing for a 0.1% sales tax to fund multimodal infrastructure.
