And this is why we need to take lanes next year and beef up the bus lanes 😤 We can’t keep letting our buses and the labor hours they require get stuck in traffic. Buses keep people moving in Seattle. We need reliable travel times.

End-of-year personal win: I used every last bit of my PTO. Claim it—it’s yours. Why it matters: what you measure matters. Unlimited PTO sounds great, but without tracking it, it can end up as just an accounting trick. Take your time. Recharge. Own it.

First time visiting Hong Kong this fall, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much it reminded me of Vancouver — the same mix of dense urban living wrapped in dramatic natural scenery.

Wholesome end-of-trip moment: ran into 2 friends on my way home — one at the airport, one on my apartment steps. It reminded me why I never feel the need to “escape” my life. I love traveling, but my city + community give me so much joy. The weather though. 🥶 Good to be home.

This post has kind of taken off. So maybe we need to take this advice. "When you talk to someone else, you're actually going to brighten their day. You're going to put them in a good mood. And there's research.. that both parties enjoy it when people do have these kind of conversations."

Buses are the hardworking, often invisible backbone of cities, even in places like Hong Kong, where the incredibly efficient MRT runs. Buses connect communities to rail and move people where trains often cannot, without the tremendous financial investment and engineering expertise required for rail.

Hit the streets with Hong Kong’s Outrunners this wkd. I love checking out the different courses of international frontrunner clubs while traveling. It’s a great way to connect w/locals and learn about their city. Have now run courses in Europe & Asia.

Seattle’s ballot drop box system feels painfully inefficient. We need more voter education on voting early & more frequent ballot pickups. It’s wild that Election Day ballots still haven’t been counted.

According to King County elections they had "a LOT" of dropbox activity in this election (emphasis theirs). They expect there's probably another 230-235K ballots countywide, so probably 115K or so in Seattle. Tonight will be a drop of 50-55K countywide, 25K or so in Seattle.

Congratulations to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight. It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win. We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but the future looks a little bit brighter.

It has been 12 years since Lance David died biking to work here. I'll be thinking about him when I ride this safer route later today. His tragic death spurred local West Seattle advocates to demand change, and to his credit Mayor Mike McGinn started this project — 3 mayors later it's finally done.
