I find it interesting that Stephen Miller, a proud Jewish man with nationalist views, hasn’t ever publicly stated his stance on Israel. Why is that?

One of the most important things I learned between 2020 and today is that basically every political bloc you could think of has some very prominent people in it who believe that all you need to do to win is say some nice, magic words

The Times' op-ed section was really eager to work with me when I got laid off at Vox, and I wrote a few pieces for them. I am proud of those pieces, and the editors I worked with were fantastic. And also any time I pitched a piece on queer or trans life, it got turned down or ignored. Ah well!

in the late 2000s people used to say "the Internet is forever" meaning online evidence of wrongdoing never fades, but that turned out to be very wrong. this shit is mad ephemeral. I executed a family of six with a claw hammer in 2013 and there's no evidence because I uploaded the vid in flash player

This goes some way toward explaining why Iron Eyes Cody decided neither to assimilate into white anglo society nor to claim his parents' Italian heritage, but just become Indian. Probably the most sane option, really.

Between the tornados, earthquakes (even where you don't expect them, aka New Madrid), and hurricanes, a significant amount of USA building norms involve 'how much can we increase the chance of getting someone out alive if the structure partially fails'. 'Unreinforced Masonry' is a problem here.

Gun fact: the record coldest it has ever been in England is the same record cold it has ever been in Louisiana. The hottest it has ever been in England is about the same as the hottest it has ever been in Alaska. America is huge and our weather is extreme and Europe has no frame of reference

The Sheridan/Yellowstone shows are awful, but I did like the plot point in 1923 of 3 upper crust Brits trying to drive through Montana in a snowstorm being like “we have brandy and fur coats tut tut, we know cold.” And then they ALL DIED IN A BLIZZARD because it’s way colder than they could fathom.

There’s a whole thing where people assume you can’t have a bias against the US, and often when you dig a little, they reveal that they see it as a country of the sons and cousins who were sent to the US to work. It’s hard for them to accept that it’s a diverse, different country, not Lesser Europe.

When these data centers become debt traps in a few years at most, the next Dem president should offer to wipe out those debts if they're sold for a dollar back to cities for community centers, mutual aid hubs, YMCA-style temporary housing services. Try to salvage anything out of this mess.

Remember after the VRA case when I said that eliminating "disparate impact" tests for discrimination was the worst thing SCOTUS could do to US law? Today's TPS decision is an example of what civil rights and antidiscrimination law look like without disparate impact.

A lot of Dems are going to learn very quickly that big chunks of the primary base do in fact care about this stuff and change their stance on it and many other Dems are going to just get very huffy and bitter about their own electorate before they get turfed out. It's going to get weird.

I’m seeing many posts lament that “Dan Goldman is such a good guy with integrity and class—it’s sad that he lost his seat.” Men with integrity don’t deny genocide and don’t fund countries that mass murder children. NY got that. It’s why they elected Brad Lander—a true leader with integrity & class.

The advances in cancer have been so fast that if you’re a doctor who doesn’t specialize in cancer, you simply can’t keep up. There are cancers that I learned are incurable in med school (‘98-2002) that are now cured or managed as long-term issues. Insane levels of ignorance from Peter Thiel 😳
