Not only do we have the largest prisoner population in Europe and the 3rd largest per capita, it costs £54k per year for each one. If you spent half that much money on mental health, housing and drug addiction services you could empty many of the prisons.

Today's ruling on the EHRC's interim guidance is a disappointing, confusing and mixed picture. A trans woman who is a customer in a café can use the women's toilets, but if she works there she might not be able to. Once again everyday life is being made a legal labyrinth for trans people.

The stealth transphobic rhetoric simultaneously argues; 1. That younger people must wait to know they are sure 2. That older people have waited too long to transition and be socially accepted. The end game is the elimination of trans people.

We're also getting questions about what the decision means for service providers whose toilets are also used by employees. The High Court doesn't deal with this - and frankly the law is a terrible mess - but the safest (and frankly the most efficient) thing to do is make all toilets unisex.

I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them." That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

The High Court will hand down judgment tomorrow in the judicial review against the Home Secretary’s proscription of Palestine Action.

“It also stresses the need for caution on social transitioning for younger children…” The idea that schools need to be “cautious” when affirming the identities of young trans people reinforces the transphobic belief that being trans (like being gay) is a “phase” or “dangerous lifestyle.” Shameful.

Literally - Cass used the fact that children diagnosed as trans enough to be put on puberty blockers continued to be trans as they adolesced, as proof that puberty blockers were a problem. They were hoping more children at the service would stop being trans and looking for a means to make it happen.

Labour's Manifesto promised to ban conversion therapy. But I defy anyone to explain how, looking at the totality of its policy platform, Labour's real policy is anything other than promoting desistance.

... and that's very much euphemistic for conversion therapy. Cass literally believes social transition *causes* people to *become permanently trans* (which is a baseless claim) and she also frames that outcome as being abnormal and undersireable outcome (which is grossly biogted).

I am one of the most published academics on the childhood social transition, with 5 peer reviewed articles that relate to the topic. There is so much evidence of benefit of social transition. There is no evidence of harm. Not one jot. This will literally kill trans kids. No exaggeration.

The straw man about schools "initiating" gender transition (they have never done it) is pure Section 28. "Children questioning their gender" implies it's always undecided, offering endless opportunities for conversion therapy. This goes beyond routine moral panic. It's ideological. #bbcpm

This draft guidance reproduces Cass insisting that clinicians must be involved in decisions about *social transition* which actually should be none of their damn business They take the line that this "non-directive" intervention should force things to be "keeping options open and flexible"...

Anyone who had genuine concerns about youth gender medicine would staunchly and wholeheartedly support social transition. Let kids explore their identities to see what works for them! The fact that this movement opposes even pronouns and haircuts shows that it's just bigotry all the way down.

We (trans safety network) met with Cass during her research on the Cass review and explained how clearly ridiculous it would be to try and bring haircuts and self expression under the authority of being a "medical intervention". She went away from that meeting and produced this crap anyway.

Given the extremely high level of suicide amongst trans children; seven times that of cis children, “caution” needs to mean… allowing trans children to transition and be accepted and supported in their wishes without delay. ANY other response risks putting their lives in danger.

The EU has just voted, by a VERY wide margin, for the full recognition of trans women as women…!

Another thing. They went for trans kids because it's easier to target them than trans adults. Trans kids you can threaten the parents with safeguarding and child abduction and force them to tolerate a lot of institutional abuse with limited outcry.

43% of trans kids outed to their parents suffer some form of negative outcome including abuse, confiscation of property and withdrawal of internet access. 9% experience actual domestic violence.
