My most strongly held comics opinion (I hesitate to say "opinion," because it's a fact): lettering should be the first finished thing done, not the last. Done after (or along with) roughs and finalized before pencils. Pencils and inking should be done AROUND the lettering.

Senators on the brink of retirement who lived full, wealthy lives and never feared the loss of their own healthcare voting for their constituents to die from their inability to afford the same is treasonous

They got cute and used Senators not up for re-election next year or ones that were retiring for the surrender vote. So here's the metric we use instead: If you aren't pushing for a new Democratic leader in the Senate *immediately,* you're out on your ass.

Chuck Schumer and Corporate captured Dems think the lesson from Tuesday is they have the midterms in the bag and so they might as well take the coward’s way out on the shutdown. This is why democrats are as bad as Trump. Not because they’re as evil, but because they allow evil to win.

This is incredibly important: we must frame tonight as a resounding victory — an electoral landslide, a mandate from the universe itself and as a repudiation of MAGA, of Trump, and of vichy democrats we must be relentless, we must not shut up

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

Not a hard question, except for the culture that pretends it's not the answer 1) right-wing media lies incessantly, so anyone truth-based doesn't trust it, and anyone who trusts it doesn't trust anything else 2) other media treats those lies as legitimate, for "fairness," getting trust from no one

Today is the birthday of Grace Drayton (Oct. 14, 1878-Jan. 31, 1936), who was among the first popular female cartoonists. She created the Campbell Soup Kids campaign in the early 20th century, & the newspaper strips Dottie Dimple, Dimples, Dolly Dimple & Bobby Bounce, & The Pussycat Princess.

Social media, meaning the spaces for people to meet and socialize globally, has been dead for possibly 10 years already. What we have now is parasocial media: a form of mass media where there’s illusion of relationships covering a high virality broadcast tool controlled by algorithms.

When are we gonna get a show where the cops and crooks listen to Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch, and bro-country? Oh, right, never, because that stuff makes Hollywood music supervisors (and prestige TV viewers) want to throw up. So instead we get a biker gang full of Richard Thompson fans.

I know this sounds cruel but the cold hard fact is we need to appeal to more voters if we want to win elections. That’s why I argue that we need to dispense with purity politics and accept candidates who want to ban Ezra Klein from receiving medical care.
