When youâre a kid, youâre thinking âthe brotherhood of evil mutants is an unbelievable and silly nameâ and then you grow up and experience politics happening and youâre like âthe brotherhood of evil mutants is the most realistic thing in the x-menâ

The tyranny of the superego: because your subjective experience is validated by following the rules, any irruption of the Real that undermines said rules puts your ego at hazard. Better to look away, better to shield your emotions, better to abstract and rationalize.

Abjection is to liberalism what fear of difference is to conservatism. Society is designed to keep reminders of its dysfunctionâpoverty, illness, general sufferingâsafely relegated to the margins. Once those boundaries are trespassed, order must be restored by any means necessary.

I'm sympathetic to the idea that art transcends politics. But it can only do so by addressing politics and going deeper. It certainly can't do it by ignoring politics.

The best acting performance I've seen in ages was in some big pharma commercial where this grandpa dude has a flowery hat on and is having a tea party with his grand daughter. The little head shake he gives after pretending to sip tea signaling it's damn fine tea is way above the call of duty.

Every day Chuck Schumer says we need minor reforms to ICE, itâs a âfuck youâ to the base, which is demanding abolition. Schumer thinks itâs his job to temper the demands of Democrats and keep the party moderately conservative. Itâs an anti-democratic impulse and political malpractice.

Swear to god, ICE could just announce they're leaving a city but not leave and the media will just stop covering that city completely even though ICE never left. It's what ICE and the media did with LA and they're doing it with Minneapolis too

ICE hit my childhood elementary school today. That public school district is suing the federal government, but note we're talking about a district that is two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Just terrorizing a small town.

This is the standard pattern. State actors provoke, people respond peacefully, state actors escalate violently. Media reports say âprotests turned violentâ or âprotestors clash with law enforcementâ which normalizes further escalation. State terror facilitates its own escalation by design.

National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation. Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

Iâm seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports. And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: âNo, I donât have to show you any documentation.â Because thatâs how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.
