"I begged my wife for the last two months to stop calling me flaccid. That kind of rhetoric needed to stop. I said to her in March--if the rhetoric doesn't stop, there is gonna be a black eye. And there has been. I wish I wasn't right. I don't want to see anyone with a black eye. But I warned her."

Exactly! Ukraine IS Europe's frontline defense right now. While some still debate "how much support," Ukrainians are literally dying for democratic values we all claim to cherish. The irony? The strongest European army today isn't in Brussels or Berlin - it's fighting in Donbas.

Itโs well understood: โConservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.โ

That we _had_ moved on, solved it, a done-deal... Yes, that was a delusion. But it's a work-in-progress, an evolution. And maybe the long arc of History does really tend towards justice.

Suggested EU response: - US airbases now represent an armed presence, inside our borders, of a nation that is openly threatening to invade our territory - Withdraw the threat or we have no choice but to close those bases - This turns USA from a global power to a regional one, overnight 1/5

1. So here's the analogy. You're a shareholder, a manager say, of a large and successful corporation. Your new CEO is very good friends with the CEO of a struggling rival. Your CEO has purged the whole c-suite and senior managers and (partially) replaced them with personal friends.

In sum, Europe has little to lose in hitting back hard. The hope here is Europe hits back hard and prompts Trump to deescalate, just as he has done on China. Thus by escalating Europe is also creating a pathway to deescalate this crisis.

And extremely odd that May - a remainer - chose an immediate and maximalist interpretation of the result. IMO she had political cover to "take the advice" and start a commission, second referendum, dry-run, etc etc...

Everyone, in and out of America keeps hoping/assuming that surely, eventually, something or someone will stop Trump. Some constitutional guardrail. Some court ruling. Some level of corruption, scandal or abuse too big to be ignored. We wait, and wait in vain. Better to act for ourselves.

Did the United States really spend trillions of dollars on winning the Cold War, only for its president in 2025 take orders from a Russian dictator? This is an earth-shattering humiliation for America of which its reputation may never recover.

If someone (e.g. a state) spends all that time, effort and resources to install "their man" to a significant position in an opposition organization... ...they wouldn't just leave it at one man, would they? I mean, from the grooming deck, there'd be a discard pile, right?

Kids getting free school meals are often bullied. The correct solution is that school cafeterias shouldn't have a till. Everyone should get a nutritious three course meal. And we should all pay for this through our taxes.
