MAKE ME BETTER is my forthcoming novel about the horrors of community. It is about cults, wellness, control, and the things we will do to escape grief. Sometimes it hurts to grow -- but your community believes that you can be made pure. It comes out in May.

This is an incredible review of SPREAD ME, both in that it is very kind to the book ("All in all, a deeply unwholesome way to spend an afternoon") and in that it is a STELLAR piece of writing - I will be repeating the phrase "four eyed, fork-tongued viral desert people-eater" to myself all day π

Itβs the most natural and instinctive thing to push away from pain. Accepting or even embracing it seems not only counterintuitive but foolhardy. But pain, especially the pain of grief, canβt be pushed away, and the act of pushing often only makes us stay in it longer.

This one makes me think of this concept from Buddhismβand, I admit, Iβm at best an amateur Buddhistβof non-striving. That is, neither pulling toward the good nor pushing away from pain, rather accepting that both are temporary and both are part of life.
