I support infill but...

On this snow filled day, I'm thinking my cycling in 2025 is over (maybe a few putz rides or errands). I got pretty close to my goal overall but hopefully I'll hit over 3,500 next year. It was a lofty goal but proud of myself for getting this close.

As someone who does not drive due to vision issues & who lives in an area where living without a car is very difficult and expensive, I resent people treating carlessness as some sort of pious luxury. Everyone I know outside major cities who doesn't have a car is disabled or poor.

I am once again asking the city to make SUP users’ lives easier and stop putting SUPs in places where they won’t get sun exposure. This is like the one way in which Edmonton’s weather conditions can actually help with snow/ice clearing but we refuse to take advantage of it in any way. :(

I always forget how much longer it is during snow fall by bike. I'm slow AF, a regular Sunday driver compared to summer, and constantly fighting the brown sugar. The rude home did have more actual riding but still VERY slow going.

Mill Creek today was bladed with lots of grit. Outside of clearing to bare pavement, this is the best way to maintain bike infrastructure in the winter during a deep freeze. The biggest issue comes when the freeze-thaw cycles arrive if crews aren't working during the melt. #yegbike #wintercycling

Cars are a lot slower than people think. This driver commutes at 4 MPH. That's barely faster than walking (avg walking pace is around 3.3 MPH) They could cut their commute to 15 minutes biking at 12 MPH, but they might not have a safe route to do so We are forcing people into terrible car commutes

Every year I have a look at the clearance fat bikes and think, nah, my 700c has been treating me well, do I REALLY need one? Days like today? Yes. I'm sure that would have been still a difficult ride in but rideable. I walked my bike to work. 😒 At least I saw the grey partridge flock!

If Edmonton wants to achieve it's own goals, they have to learn from places that are doing it. Safe, reliable, well-connected options are vital, but real change comes from making driving a bit more difficult and slightly less subsidized. We have room for improvement on both, especially in winter.

Well that commute sucked. #YEGbike With 76 ave/Mill Creek closed I took the residential streets and had my third tumble in a week. Apparently I'm looking to break records. 91 street from Argyll to 51 avenue is not cleared, and 51 ave itself west to 99 has windrows from road plowing.
