Here's Danielle Smith in October of 2024 talking about how the province's decision to pause its 13c/litre fuel tax helped to meangfully slow down inflation. However, Premier Smith has said that doing so in 2026 would provide little in the way of meaningful savings for Albertans.

I think removing the gas tax, even temporarily, is stupid, but I like seeing some aggressive politics from the NDP putting Premier Smith and the UCP in a tough spot.

I don’t agree with this, but think it’s pretty funny that the Liberals are doing it while a UCP government that for the past seven years has stoked separatist sentiment by continually talking about how bad Ottawa screws over Albertans is refusing to suspend their own fuel tax.
