I'm sorry to be a jerk about this (not really) but I spent all last season fighting people who claimed 'the high line' and reckless tactics were responsible for our defensive woes, and now we have the conservative tactics people wanted and our defense is worse with better players available.

We click because we're used to the algorithm showing us things we like, but it's quite similar to our doctor proposing some specific medicine after a visit from a pharma rep with a briefcase full of legally-not-bribes.

Some of those ads are transparently labeled as sponsored (although they will hide the label as much as they can). But other ads aren't "sponsored." The platform promised the content owner some # of views or $ in revenue and now needs to hit that number, relevance be damned.

I wrote a bit about this many years ago on Twitter-that-was: the algorithm has gradually eroded "here's what you want to see" by replacing it with "here's what we'd like you to want to see." It continues to trade on its former reputation solely due to inertia. Underneath, it's all ads.
