Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-Tail and Peter

The squirrels and the crows were hanging out in my backyard today. Here’s a video with one of each. I don’t know if you can see because I was so far away, but the squirrel is hopping around and digging for something.

I just had the most New Mexico-ass experience: I drove by a tumbleweed devil! It was like a dust devil, but instead of dust, it was a cyclone of flying tumbleweeds!

I sat down to have a snack, and now I can’t move until this bunny moves.

All of a sudden we have tulips.

After I do yard work, my body holds a grudge and somehow is madder on day three.

Timeline cleanse: this perfect Eastern Bluebird. I took this yesterday, late afternoon. No filter needed as the light was great, I only cropped it for a close-up.

Thunderstorms and now hail. Not a typical April in Northern California. The good news is that the birds did an outstanding job picking where to build their nest.

Café. When writing in a café I tend to tune everything out. Except, apparently, the word “hypotenuse,” which the woman two tables down from me said & which for some reason jolted me out of my word haze & caused me to look at her like a just slapped soap opera star.

Last night I went to bed early with a book to try to get a good night’s sleep (no screens two hours before bed!) but then I stayed up until 12:38am finishing the book.

A puddle collects in the dip of the sidewalk in the space where my children played. It waits now for bare feet and worms and soaked chalk. It’s garbage day and the trucks press on. The screens on my window are soaked from rain blocking a good picture of the hail that fell. I’m going to be late.

The pink magnolia tree across the street sits like a painting against the gray sky. The rain falls in sheets. More thunder rumbling in. I need a shower before work but it will have to wait. The birds in the evergreen chirp a pattern much faster than usual. One half of the sky still bright.

I heard the familiar sound from the attic: da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM and realized the Ghost of Iambic Pentameter had returned.

Today’s walk. The local “waterfall” is barely a trickle today, but the hills are still green.

Café. The woman next to me spilled a little coffee in her saucer & left it there & just keeps putting her coffee cup, down, in it & then picking her coffee cup, dripping, up, & it’s dominating my mind, depleting my soul.

From yesterday evening’s walk… I wish I could just fly away like that when I don’t want to interact with someone.

Today’s walk was rainy but calm. I was able to use the track around the playing fields since there’s no school and no sports today. Just me and the crows most of the time.

I had to call a lady back today and she was like I’m holding my newborn and I’m chasing my toddler and I’m in a store. And I was like just call me back in a couple years.

I parallel parked so bad that I had to leave and find a new space.

OH MY GOD WE FINALLY SAW A MOOSE! TWO!

I saw a thing that said babies born this year will be entering high school in the year 2040 which does not even sound like a real year.

Yes, yes I did have to run errands in the rain, again. But… the hills are starting to get GREEN again! I cannot emphasize this enough: YAY!!

Scientists have discovered returning to bed "for just a little bit" after breakfast has positive health effects so numerous they're not even bothering to list them. Plus, them scientists? They so comfy right now. Too comfy for lists!

Trouble

I went into an extremely crowded store. I had a cart and there was nowhere to push it and nowhere to put it and nowhere to stop and look. When I went to the next store, I did not get a cart. Freedom washed over me. Zipping through crowds, light on my feet, an unencumbered sprite.

The cat thinks a cold, dark night is a perfect time to go outside to chase squirrels. But the door to the deck will not be opened for her. This is the time for the raccoons, owls, and the creatures of the night.

What a tragedy. I guess I’ll have to eat this one.

today’s affirmation: I am within the acceptable range of deviation. I am a perfectly roasted quail. if I was a car the mechanics would find nothing weird or rodent related in my air filter. I am upright. There are no stones or excess debris in my shoes. I still have all my bones.

Slipped a little on an actual banana peel left on the actual sidewalk in this actual city. I assume I’m going hear Judy Garland singing on a trolley next & I’ll toss an amiable newspaper stand man a nickel for a paper & a pack of chewing gum.

How appropriately named is the Cold Moon on this chilly evening of -21°C or -6° F.
