Lady Orbweaver can’t imagine having fewer legs. You need a minimum of four to protect your face and four to protect your rear… plus the ability to drop out of sight on a strand of sticky silk😄

🐙🌿 I found a longhorn beetle on milkweed, and it is... wait for it... a milkweed longhorn beetle. (Tetraopes sp., at night in Montana.) An interesting detail is that the compound eyes of some beetles (and many other insects) aren't just round or oval, but have an indentation or notch in them--

Despite how often I’ve had a spotted turtle retract its head and thought “Wow, that thing is really tucked away!”, I somehow don’t have a picture of it to share. But apparently that neck skin has evolved to be thick and protective and now it has a name: the clemmysian fold! doi.org/10.1038/s415...
