I 100% agree that NYC isn't a replicative environment to be transposed onto the national stage but I do seriously hope that in the coming weeks and months people actually grapple with how a Muslim nominee was besieged by people in his own party and out on the basis of being Muslim and nothing else.

FDR would've felt incredibly vindicated by all of this. A core proposition of the New Deal was that the country's ruling class was incapable ā at best ā of defending the Constitution, and that it was up to a dissident vanguard of intellectuals, in conjunction with workers and farmers, to do it.

This is the fundamental question of the year, isn't it? If an idea that was once taboo has become normalized, do you have a right to continue to treat it and its adherents with moral repugnance, or are you obliged to bow to the shifting bounds of public opinion?

The truly maddening thing is that, unlike when I was a young man in science and the materials and engineering just werenāt there yet, the future is *right there.* The problem is *solved*. Whatās holding us back is not just greed, but this bizarre nostalgia, an obsession with petro- masculinity.

Jeffries: "Thune is divorced from reality. It's a clown show over in the Senate. 15 times you bring the same partisan Republican spending bill to the Senate floor expecting a different result? That's the classic definition of legislative insanity. Has no ability to actually negotiate in good faith."

The New York Times quickly sending out Douthat to argue that Mamdaniās victory doesnāt really matter is so predictable it borders on self-parody. Remember, folks: Every time the Right wins an election, itās an undeniable expression of the will of the people. If a lefty wins, itās just a blip.

Also on this point, something that a lot of folks don't appreciate is the fairly large swath of people who would qualify as "natsec liberals" who are now fully radicalized onto a "fuck the state of Israel entirely, not just Likud" platform It's more of a localized problem to the ME specialists

New, from me: DHS says immigration enforcement employees like ICE are facing unprecedented threats and 1000% increase in assaults. But the data does not add up. Look at the details, and we see state agents using excessive force, and then lying about it.

This is it. The American electorate is ~30% people who genuinely want cruelty, ~49% people who actively oppose it, and ~21% ignorant dum-dums. Thatās not to excuse the dumbasses, but the majority of this country does not actually want this immigration policy.

The fact that a lot of leftists despise Parks and Rec - one of the best and most sympathetic depictions of non-cop government in modern media - is a symptom of the fact that a lot of the left has no idea how to actually implement the policy proposals they want to enact.

If Jay Jones texted that shit in 2016 would a critical mass of Dems have blanked their ballot and let Miyares win? I think so. But they are furious now. Their new standard is: Make the guy apologize, then vote for him, because fuck it, Republicans would.

The way people tried to hang the very normal number of train derailments in the Buttigieg is how we need to stick plane crashes to Duffy. The U.S. had gotten very good at making sure large, scheduled flights did not crash and now they are crashing

something that the dems have always struggled with (for at least 15 years now) is that the public doesn't believe the GOP is actually like that, it's always a "negotiating tactic" or "just red meat for the base", even if it's literally written GOP platform stuff. anyways:

Zohran is a generational political talent and I'm very happy he's mayor and Cuomo is not. Also Spanberger and Sherrill do not seem to be generational political talents and yet they obviously did very well and Republican turnout cratered in their elections.

A coalition that ranges from democratic socialists to neoconservatives, including a lot of energized liberals in between, is large and formidable. A big pro-democracy tent. A united front. Any internal disagreements can be hashed out once the authoritarian emergency is over. This really can work.
