Military Senior Service Colleges Require Reform, But There Sure Are Some Bad Ideas Out There

Hearing one is Jabari Miller, former aide to Milley. Also see Pat Work, Miley’s XO when he was CSA. Miss me with the meritocracy talk when two of the absolute best are sidelined over this BS. Both have incredible resumes and reputations.

Favorite part of LTP is the end — use it tell few folks on BCT staff who don’t get much attention how much they crushed it. Today it was a CW2 who leads the topo section. A simple handshake followed by, “Chief, your section is shit hot and it has a lot to do with your leadership,” goes a long way.

Ukraine fired nearly 400 drones at Russian targets overnight, per Russia's Defense Ministry-- incl. the Baltic Sea oil port of Ust-Luga. The nearby oil terminal of Primorsk, hit early Monday, is still burning. (This has been unusually busy week for Russian/Ukraine air attacks)

When I worked a sUAS study, GEN Donahue was adamant the army must incentivize master trainers. One option we discussed was a skill identifier promotion boards viewed as equivalent to a master gunner. Also discussed how the position’s name (think flight lead for aviators) mattered.

I think a popular take on here is that the US military neglected to learn from the War in Ukraine -- this is categorically false. The real questions are "what should we learn from Ukraine" and "how" and "can we cut across our internal politics to implement those lessons?"

A thing I think I implicitly knew but have come to appreciate more so over the last month is how 99.99999% of the world's population (including many mil types) has no mental model for what actual competent state on state major league big boy war looks like in the age of the precision strike regime

Spent time w/officer leading the data collection and analysis efforts for the 2 CONUS-based CTCs. Once more data is collected, institution will be able to ID what produces effective Brigades, while potentially disproving some myths the institution has embraced despite a lack of empirical support.

Why military fellowships at civilian universities matter
Opinion: Before dismantling programs like Senior Service College fellowships, the Pentagon should carefully reconsider the full value they provide to the military.

Aid to Ukraine from 2022-2026 was a rounding error. We used more in the first two weeks of the Iran war than we provided in the 4 years of aid to Ukraine.

It is also worth adding that almost nothing we provided to Ukraine is even relevant to this conflict. The only thing that would be is the PAC-3 and we gave a borderline negligible number of interceptors. We're not using GMLRs, Bradleys or 155mm rounds to fight Iran. This is completely made up.

Many people with bios labeling themselves as Christians, Patriots, critical thinkers, and freedom loving are nothing of the kind. Wild part is many of them will commit state and federal crimes by injecting themselves into something they don’t understand, between people they don’t know.

Put Iran aside. Calling the war to defeat the Islamic State — a war carried out by an 87-nation coalition! — a war “manufactured by Israel” is some wild stuff, and progressives should avoid cheering this rift on. This is a harbinger of anti-liberal, anti-Semitic, right-wing rhetoric to come.

In this resignation letter, not only does Joe Kent blame "Israel and its powerful American lobby" (read: Jews) for the Iran War, he finds a way to blame them for George W. Bush's Iraq War, too. This is the worst kind of conspiratorial antisemitism to avoid taking accountability for what Trump did.

said it best: "Militaries fight in social, cultural, political, and economic contexts." Secretary Hegseth's myopic focus on "lethality"will cost a generation of officers the education they need to meet the most turbulent geopolitical moment since 1991. End.
