there's a great interview with a developer on Civ where they said, paraphrased, "a feature should never be the computer having fun instead of the player" and I think about this every time I'm working on procgen. It's often a strong argument to expose more of what you're doing.

Games business for me is working with people that I can trust and are clear about their needs and our needs and we find a way to achieve that together. Anything else is short term gain and that doesn’t scale.

I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.
