I was being careless (it was so stupid! I know better) while cutting carrots and managed to slice my index finger in a spot (side of the tip) that's going to be exceedingly irksome to keep a bandaid on effectively. *sigh*

Someone on here (a mutual, I think, but don't recall who) was talking about 'The Kingdoms' by Natasha Pulley, possibly in their "Things I read in 2025" list. I got it out of the library yesterday because of that and I'm almost 100 pages in and don't know what's going on in the most delicious way. :)

Deep in the forest, a forgotten temple ruin overgrown by moss is the final resting place of an old god. A stone is heaved aside, sunlight warms ancient flagstones. An offering is placed on the altar - salt, bread, oil. A prayer is said: "If you can help, do so. If not, persist." It is answered.

the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches

Man, I wanna take a walk around the city tomorrow and then sit in a park or cemetery or by the river or something and read a book. It is, however, winter, so while the walking would be fine, outdoor reading would *not* be comfortable.

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

I've been awake for like 20 minutes so far today, and... what the fuck? Relatedly, when I was at my mom's earlier this week, I found a copy of Time For Kids from the early 2000s about the invasion of Iraq. I think I'll probably take and share some pictures of that later...

I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this. He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

a lovely personal essay to start off the year, about a pingpong club in Iran that has taken on tree planting: "even a small sports association in a remote county can help protect nature while building a stronger community."
