1/4 Peter Pagast’s “Declaration of Independence” has stood across from LOVE Park since 2000. But in recent years, it’s been aging. This week, a new mural is going in its place by Shepard Fairey (@obeygiant), titled “Uplift Justice.”

Someone needs to be brave and make surface level parking lots in Center City illegal. Tax them out of existence. Create incentives to build all future parking garages with affordable housing on top and floors for civic spaces (libraries, job training sites, rooftop parks, daycare centers, etc.)

As someone who’s been exploring art in public space for the last 14 years with Streets Dept, when I travel my eyes go right to the walls. So here’s what the walls of Copenhagen look like!

Thank you so much for the video and recommendations! I love tavel, art, and food and had plans to visit Copenhagen, so this was perfect! And on a grneral note, I love seeing the street art you often highligh so keep posting! It is a bright spot in an otherwise sad and frustrating climate.

Here are six experiences I’d recommend when visiting Copenhagen! While my interests both here in Philly and when I travel generally center on art and public space, I’ve also got a few food and drink spaces in here as well. Save this video for your future vacation! 🥂

Notes from Philly Jury Duty: During roll call, the court attendant reads the names of possible jurors who all reply, “here.” After the reading of one Philadelphian’s name, however, instead of the typical response, she replies, “GO BIRDS!” And the room goes wild. 🦅

Located next to a new walking path along the Delaware River at Spring Garden Street, “River Soundings” by Haddad / Drugan reflect facts and histories about the Delaware in Philly. It’s a seriously impressive work of public art that has been thoroughly considered for viewing in daylight and at night!

More people in DC than in Wyoming or Vermont. Coming up on Alaska and North Dakota. Per capita, we pay more federal income tax than any of the states. (Incl NY, CA, CT, etc.) Voice in Congress: Zero. Have never before felt as much DC-specific patriotism—across race and class—as now.

1/3 One of the most helpful things I noticed while moving around Copenhagen was that, when I inevitably needed one, there was usually a public restroom nearby.

As Republicans at the state level in PA threaten to cut the funding for one of our nation’s most vital public transit systems, I’m currently in Copenhagen where the contrast is wild. Public transit in Copenhagen is well funded, fast, clean, and incredibly reliable.

There’s a new pedestrian-only walkway between Market & JFK and 31st & 32nd–and we’ve painted it with murals. Here’s more about the two murals Isabella Akhtarshenas created for Mural Row at Schuylkill Yards! This project is by Brandywine Realty and Mural Arts, and it was curated by Conrad Benner.
