If you blaze, hurling off sparkles and lightnings, your sorrow, gloom and stupidity keep house within you. They are more you, more yours, than your brilliance. Your genius is everything you are not. Your best deeds are foreign to you." I don't really think there is a unitary self, but yes.

I get that people's brains might still be developing in their teens & 20s but I am amazed by the number of people who are 40+ and still haven't figured out that: "other ways of life are as fully rounded as my own culture, as full of nuance, as thoughtful & as beloved by the people who live in them"

Treat people with kindness. If that doesn't work, grab them with your talons, devour them with your toothy maw, and digest them slowly over the next thousand years, and see if that helps.

there is a certain condescension in the idea that “racism should be publicly unacceptable and come with consequences” is an attack on the “working class.”

it gets tiring to keep explaining what it means to be poor to people. it is not that poor people don’t know that cooking is cheaper: cooking costs time. it costs pots and pans. it costs a working stove and your utilities on. it costs you’ve been on your feet all day and your babies are tired.

This is a mandatory watch if you’ve ever wondered how people who profess to believe the Bible can act so differently from what the Bible seems to prescribe As Dan explains, they don’t *believe* the Bible. They believe their identity politics and use the Bible to justify them

the Enlightenment consensus of the past circa 300 years though is that everyone gets to use the public sphere with dignity and respect, no matter how much we disagree with them or think people like them shouldn't exist.

“You couldn’t even teach this at marketing school, because it’s just, like, a one-off phenomenon,” one staffer says of the shop's series of incredibly viral glory hole videos. And while there are probably a few other reasons you couldn’t teach it in marketing school, the point stands!

Dumbest take about Riyadh Comedy is "everybody has a price." If the money is too good, that's scary as hell! If you find $20 on the street that rules. If you find $20k in a paper bag, you didn't see shit. If somebody offers 20% above your rate, awesome. If they offer 20x your rate YOU ARE IN DANGER.

it is true (and yet one of the great secrets of the universe somehow, still?!) that one of the most successful ways I have ever found to get anything I wanted is just... to ask for it, out loud, somewhere that people who are in a position to give it to me can hear.
