It's kind of wild to me how much parking is taken up by just a few people. On the 1100 block of 4th St NE there's a house that seems to be only 2 people but they have at least 9 vehicles. That's 16% of the on-street spaces for 1% of that block's people. Cheap parking is why you can't find it.

Because campus is very walkable but we need to get there & that’s not doable if sidewalks are covered in ice/snow/broken & gaps in bike network make it feel unsafe. There is no one at this meeting representing bikes/peds, just cars & bus.

Lots of hand wringing today at the transportation committee about parking availability on campus, esp high demand lots. I decided to be That Person & point out that the more people they can encourage to walk/bike, more parking for everyone else. This means pushing the city to up their game…

My first published piece of the year. This is a topic I care about immensely, and one I fear is underreported in the U.S. I hope whoever reads this gains some value out of it.

I have a small critique of the current protest culture: please don’t hold a march on a public street and empower folks in vests to try and tell the press where to stand and at what pace they must move. That’s basically messing with our first amendment rights. And it doesn’t make any new friends .

Went into the Starburst Safeway just now. The announcement had been that the store would remain open until May 16, but I can’t see that happening. So many shelves have already been stripped. Almost no produce, cereal, bakery, or meat remain. Frozen aisles half empty. It can’t last another 7 weeks.

Whoever allowed these street names to be approved should be tarred and feathered (I know that is considered torture—that’s the point). 🤮
