"the great men of the past" had no introspection. This is all very telling. His ideal are the patriarchal men of 400 years ago who were emotionally immature, incurious about themselves and others, eschewed guilt that is a necessary element of growth, and just did whatever they wanted.

My books have sold over 15 million copies in North America. If I averaged a royalty of $1 per book, I'd have it made in the shade. Spoiler: I do not average anywhere near $1/book. (not a complaint, I love my work, it's just facts)

My D&D book came out at the same time as the Adult one, and assuming we had the same contract, we get 5%. The difference is that the adult book is $10 more than mine, do the adult author gets 5% of a higher number. That's the most parallel example I have, but the discrepancies are frequently worse.

Just doing a little math on the difference in royalties I receive on adult books vs kids books and hardcover vs paperback: 50,000 copies of an adult novel in HC = 1,500,000 copies of a children's illustrated chapter book in PB Blows my mind. 50k vs 1.5M
