Update: hello from the gate! We seem to have a flight to Charlotte, but it is delayed. So for those keeping track (???), in theory last 24 hours we’ve been ticked on flights to: JFK, Philadelphia, Chicago, and now Charlotte, and from there to Philadelphia. Let’s see where we go!

Update: when we tried to check in the machine pumped out a piece of paper that basically said “Yikes. Go talk to an agent. No tickets or tags for you. Good-bye” so let’s go find out what that means.

Update: hello from a Heathrow airport hotel bed! So, we managed to get ourselves booked on an alternate flight on American, taking us to Philadelphia. Except that we just woke up and found that that flight is canceled and American is sending us to…Chicago. Where we will then be stuck.

Update: we seem not only to be canceled, but possibly stuck for a few days. Adventure time!

We’re supposed to be on an eight PM flight from London to NYC to do our second Christmas with my family, but that means we will land at 11pm in what seems to be the heaviest snowfall NYC has had in four years. What do you think our chances are?

Tonight Gluggagægir (Window Peeper), the 10th of Iceland's 13 Yule Lads, comes down from the mountains. He likes to peep into windows to see if there is something inside worth stealing. Children leave their shoes out in the window, he gives the good ones a small gift, the bad ones get a potato.

In the last hour, I saw a holiday tractor parade, went to a pub, met a new person and a dog, was told how to buy antiques and was introduced to a ghost. This is a better place.

Pro tip I just learned: never download the Chicos app on a packed and moving train going through the UK countryside in an attempt to order your mom a gift to make up for one that got lost in the mail because you will either order no Chicos or 35 no iron blouses.
