When writing about autism for scholarly publications, it's a constant source of annoyance that so much autism research is just offensive in the way it frames things. Like, I want to cite these researchers, but maybe not quite as much as I want them to fuck off. Mostly I can work around it, but 😖.

Autism research is full of eugenism, and methodological and ethical issues. The deficit model allows people to treat autistics like sub-human. I didn't saw something like this in other fields.

Academics generally have little idea where our skills might be valued outside of the academy. So, you're starting from scratch. That's okay! Lean into curiosity. You do have valuable skills: critical thinking, writing, public speaking, the ability to get sh*t done without close supervision.

I'm curious what resources folks would recommend to someone just starting a disability justice journey. This is one of those topics I'm so deep in that I'm not sure where a good place to start is. I'll put some of my references here over the next day or so.
