I now fervently believe this. Relatedly, I think celebrating good news and embracing joy are equally radical. You have to remember what you’re fighting for. We cannot sustainably organize around sorrow.

There is exactly one good story coming out of the Boston sports scene right now and it's that the Scottish fans are drinking the town dry and playing bagpipes everywhere and just generally being delightful

Dear new Apple CEO, You could do a lot worse than relaunch the iPod as a budget-friendly (under $400, you can do it! ) delivery system for serious music fans. Two T of storage, ability to play FLACs, real headphone jack. You have no idea the goodwill this would generate.

This may be a fundamentally new kind of sin blending blasphemy, idolatry, divination, and simony, among others. Those who are not horrified at this may be entirely lacking in authentic religious awareness and feeling.

FUCKING THIS. EVERY DAMN DAY we have to deal with a whole bunch of putting some man's "value to society" over our basic humanity. EVERY DAY. "But he'll be a good president." Find someone else. "But he's a good comedian." So will someone else be. "But he catches footballs good." FUCK OFF WITH THAT.

Gentle reminder on this day: saying things like "we are all immigrants (except natives)" actually erases important amounts of American history. There are a lot of people who are not native whose ancestors never immigrated to the US.

fwiw Americans are very bad at understanding that the 2 things you're not supposed to discuss - politics and religion - infuse literally everything that the country has done, is doing, and will do it's the water we swim in, which is why we don't see it

A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain. A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones. The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...
