It was fairly late last night when we were discussing the Meta AI cooking disaster demo. Several people told me that how terribly it went really lightened their moods for a moment, so I bring it to you morning people.

And the thing is … one reason *not* to gradually dull your brain into a barely sentient electrolytic jar of pickles is that sometimes … the WiFi doesn’t work. You don’t want to end up in a thunderstorm with a box of cereal and a gallon of milk screaming into the dark, “WHAT DO I DO FIRST?”

This is funnier and funnier the more I look at it. They laid out all the ingredients he was going to need. So this was going to be a demo where a robot tells you how to take ingredients that are sitting on your counter and combine them into a sauce.

You know what? I’m not attached to sweeping the Dodgers in LA anyway, and I’m going to go to bed at a normal hour. I hope you find something that will bring you a little bit of peace out there.

You can do this OR you can type “Asian-style steak sauce recipe” into your phone like I did. One of those things is extremely embarrassing and makes you look like an inept dork, and the other takes five seconds and tells you how to make steak sauce.

I wonder if it's not a coincidence that this is happening after he made the wonderful HBO Max doc series THE LAST MOVIE STARS, about Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. I think you can see him in that series thinking really really hard about what he wants to do and what he wants to accomplish.

I think Hawke's performances in THE LOWDOWN and BLUE MOON, taken together, are about as good a showing over a couple of months as I've ever seen from an actor. He is at maybe the most interesting and fruitful phase of his career. He's stupendous in both and they couldn't be more different.

As Dan references here, my biggest problem with this show is that it keeps telling you Bateman’s character is a ne’er-do-well nobody can help loving, but it keeps showing him as a witless, charmless, mean d-bag. “But he’s so fun to have around!” becomes very “[citation needed].”

I understand blaming that game last night on the decision to take Ohtani out, but … you never know exactly how the rest of that game would have gone. He likely wasn’t going to finish it, and speaking as a person who saw some real bullpen disasters this year, you have to bring those guys in sometime.
